End of '05 Ordering / Beginning of '06 Ordering

Does anyone (preferably any dealers if we have some here) know when (or if they already have) Mazda will stop orders for '05 RX-8s or when they will start accepting orders for '06s? Even if you know the dates for last year, that would be probably be a good guesstimate.

With the fire doing what it did, the choices of cars in my area are limited. The number of them is not -- there are over 100 of them with a 20-mile radius. So there are plenty. But the selection is very limited. You tend to either get totally base, or 100% loaded with everything out there. And certain colors, particularly the two I'm stuck deciding on -- White and Blue -- are extremely limited. Only a half-dozen Whites and not a single Blue in the area.

So, I'm considering just placing an order as late as I can and making sure that I'm still open to whatever rebates may be applicable on the date it arrives.

The flip-side is that I'm really waiting to see what Mazda announces for the '06 MY. Different colors, stronger MTX, any other minor changes, etc. And I'm very much just considering waiting a couple extra months and getting an '06 since I get S-Plan anyhow.

So it'd be ideal if Mazda began '06 ordering (and making any changes known to the dealers) before the end of '05 ordering. Did Mazda do this last year?

No way. Production should begin mid-August and dealers should be getting their first allocations in around late September. Dealers usually place their orders for first allocation 3-4 months before delivery. Mazda announced the '06 changes for its' other models in preparation of dealer's placing their initial allocation a couple weeks ago and is no longer accepting orders of most of their lineup, which is what prompted me to ask this question, as the RX-8 is the only model not listed on the sheet yet.

Sorry, mis-read your post. They are typically available in fall. No idea when they start taking orders. I would imagine they would not allow ordering too early in the year b/c they don't want to get stuck with a ton of 2005 leftovers like they did last year (there are dealers around me still sitting on several 04 models!!).

Why not just call a dealer and ask them when they'll start taking orders for the 2006's? They have to at least know a ballpark of when they can start taking orders for the next MY....

I would call a dealer but I know they'd feed me a line of BS.

I just ordered mine last week or so and I was told by the GM (friend of mine) that June will most likely be the last batch of '05s.

We're all still waiting to see what Mazda announces in the coming weeks for the '06 Rx.

I called Mazda USA and they said that they should be getting the specs on the 06 in the next couple week. They said that the website will get updated in about 1-2 weeks after they get the specs. If there are any interesting updates or improvements they will know from the specs.

(From another thread) I ordered a 05 on the 12th of May. According to my dealer this was the last day to order a 05. They told me this about a week earlier, so I have no reason to think they were telling tales.

I went in yesterday and saw an email/ VIN/ build status from Japan about the 8 I ordered - I can't wait!

To top it off, I had them agree, in writing, that if I want to wait for a 06 because of a feature or a change in model year roll, I could – even when the 05 is delivered.

No not yet, I should be able to get it later this week. This is my guess - since they shared the build status. I will talk with them and post asap.

I think you and I ordered just a few days apart so that's the main reason I ask.

I'll call my dealership as well and see what I can find out.
