Dealer isn't following through

So I ordered my '05 back in September, at which point I was told it would be 8-10 weeks til it showed up, consistent with other people's experiences. However, my dealer is now starting to hint that I may have to wait up to 5 months! to get my car. This is, however, not a possibility, since I currently don't have a car and was going to tough it out for the (what I thought was) last 3-4 weeks til it showed up. Do I have any recourse in this matter, other than taking my business elsewhere? I'm so angry

My dealership said the MS spoiler would be shipped overnight and I'd have it installed on my car the next day. So I signed on the dotted line and paid full MSRP on it as I wanted the spoiler immediately.

One week later, they finally got it in. They didn't even call me, I had to check.

Depends on where you are, I guess. When I bought my 04 two weeks ago, there are already a few 05's sitting on the lots. At three dealers, only counting 6 speed GTs, I saw a total of 2 whites, 2 titaniums, 2 blues and 1 red. They said more are coming in and I can get 05s in any configuration I want. I'm sure they are sitting somewhere in some back lot. It does not make sense to have to wait any longer for the 05s. I suggest cancelling your order and going somewhere else.

Maybe ask to speak to the sales manager and, if that doesn't work, the owner of the dealership? Tell them you thought you had a deal, you'd like to do your business with them, this change is a big problem, is there anything they can do to help you out and keep your business?

That's the thing, my salesman is totally trying to help me out and wants to make me happy, he calls me with other cars that are close to the one I ordered and offers me same price (relative to invoice) on them. He says he keeps asking the sales manager (and I believe him, I've been visiting every couple weeks and he always goes and gets an update for me), so its really the sales manager that's the problem, not my salesman. I guess when I go in this week to see whats going on I'll see if I can't get a straight answer from them, otherwise I guess its time to find a new dealer and renogotiate

I'm sure your salesman is fine. The salesman is at the bottom of the food chain at the dealership and has no authority or power to do anything without the sales manager's approval. That's why I think it would be totally appropriate for you to ask to speak to the sales manager or owner. You might be able to save the deal you've already negotiated and spare yourself the trouble of having to start the whole process over again with another dealer. In fact, your salesman will appreciate you working things out with the dealer and not taking your business elsewhere. He only gets a commission if you buy from him.

It sounds like you have a salesman you like, which I understand, I had a good salesman, too. Tell him you appreciate all of the effort he's put into the deal, you don't fault him one bit, you're at the point where you need to consider taking your business elsewhere, but in the interest of giving one last shot at working things out (and saving his commission!), you want to speak to someone higher up. I think this is the essence of diplomacy and good negotiating -- do everything you can to work things out before you say f-you, good bye.
