carsdirect

Someone asked earlier about buying on carsdirect. You can get the 2004's for $150 over invoice on carsdirect.com. I know, I just bought one! :D

No thanks to the salesmen at the dealership. Thank god I read this website, they don't know anything!

carsdirect is cool, though. Highly recommend it! They found the car I wanted at a dealer in S. California and are delivering it to San Jose (about 400 miles away) for free. I told them about the PCM reflash issue, and they got the dealer to take care it before delivery. And you don't have to haggle over the price or deal with salesmen.

Not bad but these cars are going under invoice. I just bought a green, MT, sport package, 6 cd, spoiler, spare tire for 24,739. I worked five dealers for 2 weeks. They have to move these 04s to make room for the whites

Oh my god, that's a great deal! :O With carsdirect, you just type in what you want, you pay a fixed price, and you're done. But man, you saved a boat of money.

The 2004 base MT is now listed at $400 below invoice at CarsDirect here in L.A. Am I kicking myself for buying at $350 above invoice a month ago through them? A little, but not much--I think I've had at least $750 worth of fun over the last month. Anyway, I think they're a great service, and it was well worth whatever extra they might charge on some cars to not have to waste an entire weekend haggling from dealer to dealer. The CarsDirect price on some cars is terrific--when I last looked, for example, the BMW Z-4 3.0 liter was about 4 thousand below invoice. Depending on supply and demand for RX-8's, they will adjust also. Even if you still want to negotiate directly with a dealer/fleet manager, be sure to quote the CarsDirect price first and start down from there.

I agree on the going from dealer to dealer and haggling part. The best part of my deal is I did all my haggling from my computer and telephone. I live a good 50 miles from the nearest dealer and the one I ended up buying from was over 70 miles away. I test drove one on a weekend and visited two dealers. After that I contacted every dealer in the area, 5 of them via email, told them what i was looking for and let them compete. Couple of weeks and 1 last chance to let the other 4 beat the deal(including stopping at a dealer on the way to show him the deal and see if he wanted to beat it before I went over and closed) and he said no thats a great deal. Alot of homework, letting them know I was a serious buyer and it turned into an awesome deal with minimum effort...

That's a very good deal for here in SoCal, I wonder if the CarsDirect price would be the same down here.

Just be careful. If you use Carsdirect, go through them directly. I used the second option of contacting the dealers through them (option two) and it put me in touch with two dealers out here (Thousand Oaks & Santa Monica). Both were very poor experiences. I am about ready to sue SM Mazda, and Thousand Oaks promised me a price over several emails, and when I drove out there (about 1 hour each way) they said they could not honor the price they quoted me.

Fanman, I'm curious about your experience with Santa Monica (what happened) and who you dealt with there. I bought my previous car there and looked at the RX-8 there before buying through CarsDirect.
