first, eliminate as many variables as possible. Get your financing set somewhere else (bank, credit union etc.) next, know the value of your trade per edmunds, or better yet, sell it to carmax if you can get the edmunds price. take as many variables away from the dealer so you can focus on price. email the internet manager, tell him you'll pay $100 over invoice, and you have a check in hand.

Your best bet is to contact their online rep. They know internet shoppers shop around a lot, and so they tend to offer you invoice straight up without negotiations.

My daddy is going to be so proud I'm finding this stuff out. LoL
I went to the Costco website and it was like $25,500 invoince (I added a navigation system.. my dad wants all our cars to have them now.) and so.. are you saying that I could get that car for around $25,600? I don't know about car buying, but I'm learning..

Be warned that your choices will be limited if you want navi. Most cars on the lot aren't going to have it, so you'll have to pick from the colors available and the packages that it comes with.

I found that most navi units tended to come with GT and a lot of extras like 6 disk cd changer.

I managed to get mine (stock GT with navi) for 30k, then added on the ms spoiler.

Of course, this all changes if you're willing to order and wait for it to come in.

Well.. the navigation can wait because the only place I'll be going is to Walmart, school, and tanning salons... all about 30 seconds away from me sooo.. when my dad talking about getting them put in our cars I was confused. But it's still a nice add on.
Right now.. I just want to get the car! The place we looked at them at had about 30.. and had alot of black.. and I want black. I'm not worried about them not having any when I want to buy.
Literally.. $100 over invoice? It just seems unbelievable to me. I guess we'll see what happens.

$100 over invoice isn't that big a deal. Remember the dealership makes money even if they sell at invoice.

It's all a matter of supply and demand. If the cars are selling like hot cakes, they tend to be able to jack up the price and refuse to take lower than $N dollars.

I'm not really sure why the RX-8 is selling at invoice already, to be honest. But I'm not complaining

I got quotes from several dealers in the area through cars.com and edmunds.com. Within a day or say I got several e-mails that I kept on forwarding from dealer to dealer until I got the lowest price. The internet sales manager at my dealership was pretty good from the get go. Remember regardless of what they say, you can get the car from the cheapest place and you can take it anywhere for service.

There is a dealer holdback on Mazdas. For the 6MT RX-8 it is $534 (its $504 for the 4AT) So, as Jason said the dealer will still make money on invoice sales.

There also may also be other dealer incentives as well, especially at the end of the model year.

Yes, I just got mine over the weekend - a 6-speed with a GT package and no other extras for $25,500, even slightly below invoice. They are willing to deal right now because of the 2005s coming in within two months, and it was a really slow day as well. I think it also helped that I was fully ready to walk away and go to another dealer. I'd visited three before buying the car. I highly recommend being relentless and knowing ins and outs of pricing, and telling them up front that they are screwing you (if, indeed, they are). Good luck, you won't regret it, this car is amazing.

That was supposed to say $28,500. I apologize.
