Advertising Assesment - Did you pay it?
A dealer quoting me invoice wants to change me a $290 advertising fee for the 8, I didn't pay this on my 6 that I recall.
Whats the verdict on this?

Acording to "Fight Back," the fee in some major metropolitan areas is "legit."
It is supposed to be a fee to reimburse the dealer for what Mazda charged *them* for their regional advertising. In the DC area, all of the various local dealers seemed to charge it in one way or another...
I personally think that "legit" or no, it is BS. I mean, why should we (or the dealer) have to pay regional advertising fees in addition to the price of the car? All of that really should just be included in the selling price...
My personal suggestion is to look at the final price after all fees are included versus all the other dealers in the local area... If the dealer has the lowest price after any applicable fees, then if price is the main concern, I guess they are the winner.
In my case, when I bought a month and a half ago, the dealer I went to charged a $200 advertising fee, but the price I got was $300 under invoice to begin with, so I did not haggle at all on it... They still were $700 cheaper than the next closest competitor in my area (most DC dealers seem to charge more than the average dealers elsewhere in the country).
Good luck!
