Beware when they use a warranty as a bargaining chip!
Most of the regulars I'm sure are aware of this, but I thought this would be a great place to post this since a lot of the readers of this thread are probably in the market for a new 8 and are thus new to the forum and probably aren't aware of it.
All RX-8s have a 100k/8Yr warranty on the engine! See here.
I'm glad I stumbled across that because I walked in to a dealership today, and they were going to "throw in" a "$4000" warranty for only $1000 more. Now, to be fair, this was a non-Mazda warranty that covered drivetrain and engine electrical as well, but he conveniently forgot while we were bargaining to mention the existing 100k/8yr warranty, which really takes a lot of the value out of the aftermarket warranty.
I've seen this warranty mentioned in several ads, as if it's something the dealer's 'throwing in', or else they're really vague about it so you don't realize it's limited to the "engine core components", so be careful when you negotiate!

^Well, the original warranty was extended to 5yr/60k well more than a month ago and this new warranty 8yr/100k has been out for almost a couple months now. I think you're good to go either way.

...this was a non-Mazda warranty...
Extended warrantees are generally not a good deal. If, every time you're offered an extended warranty, you put that money in the bank you will wind up ahead in the long run.
Forget which car it was, but once when the closer on a new car tried selling me an extended warranty, I commented about what a big percentage of the car's value it was, and speculated that it could be a sign that this was not a reliable car. When I flowed into how maybe I was making a mistake buying the car, he stopped pitching.

The aftermarket warranty is what it's worth watching out for....
Teh fact that we have a warranty on the engine internals really shouldn't change your mind on if you want a powertrain warranty, they are not close to the same things. A powertrain warranty will cover in the realm of 50 components, the new engine warranty covers like 4 or 6....
