Am I alone on this?
Besides the nature of things are that it's more fun to talk about expensive things no one has and everyone wants than inexpensive things that everyone have (Clear Corners FTW!).
You have to realize as well that there are ALOT of 04 and 05 owners, that have had the time to choose, save for and buy expensive mods. I've had my car for 2 years and I've only done two-three minor mods, and one major, in wheels. Choosing them took me a year?
Would be a much smaller forum if all we ever talked about was how sweet our stock RX-8s are and all the different ways we can change fluids. They ARE great but you can only say that a few hundred thousand times before you realize you're being a tad redundant and start wasting your time on the Intergoogleweb doing something else.

there are four types of modders on the forums
1. The "buy a few things" and are good modders
2. The "buy a few things every couple of months" modder
3. The "have a plan and spend weeks/months/years getting to the end result" modders
4. The Taj's aka "spend more then you should on something you couldnt afford to maintain even if you didn't Taj-up your car". These guys throw a ton of money at the car and hope it sticks.
None of these are better then the other, some are just more sustainable

Dom, after the initial splash of cash most of those guys fall into 2 or 3. Heck.. some of those guys who drop 8k within the first year never mod again and consider themselves 1's.
