the best I could do...

I just put my (refundable) deposit on a loaded 6 SP 04 (winning blue GT, NAV, appearance, spoiler, 6-CD, mats, sunroof deflector, rotary accents) MSRP is 35269, invoice is $31,993. I paid $31862+$185 doc fee = $32047. After the $1500 rebate and $500 college thing it is just over $30K.

I am pretty happy with the deal (and fired up about the car). HOWEVER, it is discouraging to see others getting even better deals.

Is this deal OK for Massachusetts/New England or should I try to haggle further?

Thanks! - Tim

I personally think that is a little high myself , I would keep working on it ... I got mine in Texas for $1500 below invoice and others have got them even lower on the 04's. just a FYI

I think $5200 under MSRP is pretty good but I'm amazed how the cost of all the options adds to the total cost. I got $5300 off sticker on my 04 sport and paid $23100 or about $7000 less. Are all the options really worth it?

the sunroof deflector is the only problem with that car

and if i'm reading this correctly, you're paying dealer invoice.... in which case you may as well get a 2005. I've been reading about people getting 3500 under dealer invoice for the NOS.

At this point with the 04, I don't think there's much choice regarding options. You take what's on the lot. $2K below invoice is not bad at all. A month ago, it would have been considered one of the best deals out there. But still not bad.

Hey TimR, Where are you getting this deal?I think you can do better myself.I Replied to your last thread asking about deals and told you Champion mazda has 2 cars that are fairly loaded(well the yellow one is totally loaded),and that they are hot to make a deal on these cars to unload them. Also the mazda gallery in Norwood has a $%^tload of 04's that I bet they would love to get rid of.I don't know where you are located but Norwood shouldn't be too bad if you are in the Boston area and champion in Brockton isn't that much more south.Good luck.I think you can do better.

Thx for the feedbck...

Seems like the deal may still be on the high side. I went to Gallo Mazda in Worcester. The sales guy came right to dealer invoice right away and wouldn't go lower. The only way they would go lower is if I had a written offer from another dealer going below dealer invoice. Another dealer in Nashua(??) also said that they would sell any car they had on the lot for dealer invoice.

I didn't go to Champion since they didn't have a blue one.

128 Mazda has 5 blue 04's on the lot - but getting them to negotiate was like pulling teeth (my kids won't eat if I sell a car at that price). I spent 1.5 hours there and it was a nightmare.

Talacario in Manchester has an advertised yellow GT at 500 below dealer invoice but wouldn't match it on their other cars and then mentioned they have a $400 advertiser fee they would add on to the price. They also have a number of cars. left.

I am going to make a few calls today and see if Gallery or any of the others will budge.

Thanks for the help! - Tim

Explore your options, do not settle if it is not within your comfort level...with 05's on lot, dealers are willling to let 04's go for much of nothing due to floorplan requirements and such...I bought my 04 in sept and gave 26200 otd..You have to stand your ground. As for dealer indicating could not go below invoice, Have you tried any e-quotes? This might be the way to go.

I think the stickler on your deal is all the options (dealer added type stuff, like upgraded floormats, appearance package, etc.)
I saw a Yellow 6 speed (04) with chrome wheels, the appearance package, the aluminum spear thingies on the front sides (behind the front wheels)
They had added 4 grand to sticker for this. Not even the GT package with leather, they wanted 36k for this car!
I laughed at the sales guy when he came back with the key to it, as I found the car that I ended up buying.
6 speed Silver (Not a choice of color that I would have made up front, but I REALLY like it now) with the GT package. My car had no other dealer stuff. Not even the 6 disc changer.
I'm going to get an iPod mount for it to be able to keep ALL my tunes in the car without the pile of CDs I had in my old one.

I'd suggest that you check out Edmunds to see what they show this car going for and see how your deal compares. I did a quick check on there, and although I don't know your zip code, it seems that you are getting a good deal.

Good Luck!

Bought the car.

After going back and forth with various dealers, I stuck with my gut and stayed with Gallo. $2100 off of dealer invoice (incl rebates) isn't the best deal, but I got the car I wanted. I get to pick it up later today or first thing Wednesday AM!

Thanks for all of the advice! - Tim
