Angry all these good deals on 04s, and i'm not seeing a single one around my area

i've struck out a couple times already at two different dealerships in the houston area. none of them seem to want to make a deal for 04s. one offered a silver 6speed gt for 29k out the door. the other was for 26,800 on a black 6speed touring. neither was willing to budge on their initial quotes. i really want this car, but it doesn't seem like anyone wants to come down to ~25k

That's no good. Maybe they're sensing the supply shortage and holding prices. Have you tried listing all the cars in the area & taking the list with you to the dealers (so they know you know there are others out there)? Good luck.

Wow, well they can't seem to sell them in Austin. They are all over the car lots. I just sold my viper and am looking for a blue/white GTS. I also was planning on getting a corvette but I couldn't resist looking at RX-8's. I saw an 04 titanium GT with nav at a Porsche dealership today. It had 9K miles on it. I purchased it for $23,000 even. Unreal! The original sticker was in the the glove box for $33,100. Man, someone took a real hit.

Anyways, this is my first post of many. It's a real nice car for the $.

btw, if you come over here to Austin, Roger Beasley (north and south) are offering
$6000 off any new RX-8 and they have 12 in stock right now. They are ready to deal.

Sorry, I know this is offtopic but can you post pics of your viper? Those are HOT! Whats it like to go from a 450hp/490tq car to a 238hp/159tq car?

Geez,
6000 off on all new 8's and you bought a 04 with 9K on it for 23k and thought it was great?? Is that odd or are you just an employee for Beasley trying to rope in customers. Something realy wrong with your post.

?? What do you mean?

$23K seems like a real good deal considering the options. You can certainly get a new one like mine for $27, but I still thought that $23K was a good deal for one with only 9K miles.

Here's a pic of my Viper. As for the difference, you really can't compare the two. I wasn't really able to get on the RX- 8 yet because it's been raining all day. I did notice that it seems very flat low rpms (little torque), whereas the Viper can break the tires loose at idle almost. (and they are 335's in the rear so that's no small task).

It makes me quite envious too seeing all these posts about how people got great deals on their 04s. Really just boils down to supply and demand, as well as local competition. Here in my little town city of Hilo, HI there's only one Mazda dealership...you pretty much either deal with them if you want a Mazda or deal with no one. They do not budge on RX-8 pricing, calling them a hot item that sells quickly...which I suppose in their case, it is, just because they have a monoply on selling Mazdas. They're also a Subaru dealership...I suppose it's no easier for people that want a WRX STi.

I ended up having to reserve my RX-8 while it was still on the ship, and forked over $31k for an AT with Touring package back in July 2004. Yeah I got raped, but short of dealing over the Pacific Ocean, which with a car, I wouldn't feel too safe doing, there's no other way to get an RX-8 while seeing eye to eye with someone. Seeing all these recent posts on how the RX-8 is dropping value fast doesn't help much either.

I'm just really glad I'm enjoying the car alot, and that it hasn't given me any problems at all to date...still it's painful to see others being able to nab theirs at $24k or less. Sad thing is, for what I paid, I could've bought a plane ticket to the mainland, bought the car, arrange shipping, and fly back, and probably still have leftovers from the price difference I paid on mine.

In your case I'd be envious too, but only because you don't have the resources to shop around, and the monopoly has you by the gonads. For others you need to remember keep this in mind. The people getting these deals are buying a leftover that's a year old already, and they are paying it's current market value. We tend to not look at that, but it's important to understand. What they are paying is all the car is worth, plain and simple. Yes, that sucks for those of us who bought early models, because we suffered the depreciation more. However, we also got 6 months to a year more driving then these guys did. The people getting these great deals are only getting what they pay for, just as we did when we got ours. their car is already a year old, the moment they drive it away. It really isn't comparable to what we paid because we got car when it was not leftover, and brand new. In the end the amount we paid is to have that extra time driving and enjoying our cars, while the others dreamed of driving. The people buying now do not get back that depreciation, and the moment they drive it off lot, they already lost 3k, just as we did when we bought ours. There's just some gratification to those who envy the killer steals on leftover 04s.

check mazdausa.com

I just bought my 04 3 weeks ago. Base model for 22k out the door. the car had 57 miles on it when I took delivery. You can check dealer inventories at mazdausa.com. I went there and pretty much knew before hand that they had about 10 04's on the lot that they wanted to move out.

Just bot mine this weekend

I live in SoCal and had to fly upstate to get the options I wanted b/c the '04s w/GTP are starting to run slim.

Sticker: $33,100
I paid $25,700 - with all taxes/fees: $28,388

Black/Black
Nav
GTP

The car is awesome, but I have to say the mileage quotes were very misleading. This thing is a freaking guzzler if you decide that you want to shift at RPMs above 3000.

I love the car, but I have to say that this fact is very disappointing since gas prices appear to be headed up and further up in the years to come. Plus I thought the rotary was a relatively fuel efficient engine? I guess I was wrong.

Oh well, I still do luv the car - I just have to hope gas prices stay reasonable.

Was said before - supply / demand. Using the website I found 200 + cars available within a 250 mile radius of my home. Of these, at least 10 were almost exactly what I was looking for. Pricing details can be sorted out by sending e-mails to the dealers. This sorts out which dealer is most motivated to move the iron. Depends how motivated you are. I was ready to purchase a one way bus ticket to pick up the car (after first driving round trip to finalize the purchase).

Also, Mazda was throwing another $500 in if you bought during the local car show. Can easily get schedule of car shows off web.

RX8cited,

I needed a daily driver and that is why I purchased an RX-8. I sold the Viper because I want to buy a different Viper or possibly Ferrari. I like all kinds of cars, I'm not really a die hard Ford, Chevy, or _____ kind of guy. I see benefits in all kinds of cars. I bought the RX-8 because of the deals that can be had and it's so refined and fun to drive. I don't think it's the best looking car in the world, but I really LOVE the interior and it's comfort as well as the free reving engine.

Here's a pic of my RX-8 after applying some zaino on sunday. The copper car is my wife's Mazda 6S and the car in the garage is a cobra component car I am building.

For those people looking for a good deal, like I said, there seems to be an abundance of them in Austin, both new and used. They are $6K off new which means you can pick up a great deal if you see a used one on a car lot. I used this as my leverage. Mine had an original sticker of $33,100. The dealership had a "red tag special" at $28,900. I told them they were $6K off new and they had to give me a GREAT deal if they wanted to sell it. After about an hour of haggling, I held firm to my original plan of $23K and they finally gave in once I stood up to leave and sold it to me for $23K. I purchased it from a Porsche dealership. Car is as new, not one scratch.

Good shopping all and enjoy.

i ended up talking to a guy at beasley today. he had a gt 6speed for $31,900 msrp, not including the $6k in rebates that he said he would apply. how much do you think i could haggle it down to, drive-out? i plan on going up there to check it out in a week or so.

$25,900 is already a good deal, but you *might* be able to get it for an even $25k. Go for it! Is it a black one? I know they had one 8 with the options I was looking for, GT and nav and it was black. If you really want it, I would just buy it over the phone, then come pick it up. I wouldn't wait a week.

it's actually a blue one with everything minus navigation. the 25,900 is not including ttl. think they'd take my offer of $26k out the door, or are you saying go even lower because it has no navigation?

Here's the link to the specials page at Mazda South in Austin. It says 25% of MSRP on 2004 RX8's. $31.9 x 25% discount = 23,925.

I know they still have 2004's left, as the hotel I'm staying at for my business trip is directly across the street and I can see a yellow 8 on the lot out my window.

My bad, ad says 15% off MSRP. I thought 25% sounded too good.

With just GT, the invoice is $29,060 (for an 05 6mt, 04 invoices were similar) with an MSRP of $31,685.

There are not "$6000 worth of rebates" as the dealer said, ther is $1500 customer cash (or 3.9% financing) + $2500 bonus cash for MAC financing. So if you let them finance you and take the non-promo rate (may be 7% or more) then you get $4000 off the car. There are currently no known factory to dealer incentives.

So $29,060 dealer cost - $4000 in rebates = $25,060 dealer cost and they get a little over $500 in hold back money next quarter if you buy the car now. So his $25,900 price means he is still making a nice profit on this car. Your $26k "out the door" number is completely meaningless since the rest of us have no idea how much taxes and fees are in you area. Where I live there is 7% state sales tax due, so if I purchased it for the $25,060 dealer cost it would be $26,814.20 + local tax + tags and fees. So if I said "$26k out the door" the dealer would just laugh at me.

But if that is the car you want, then you should be able to get it pretty close to $25k with TTL if you do the MAC thing.

In another thread I posted a comparison, and you MAY be better off to take the 3.9% promo financing and pay the extra $1500 for the car. It all depends on if you qualify for the 3.9% and what non-promo rate they offer you. Run the numbers for yourself and pick the best deal. As others have said, if you can get a nice refinance rate from your bank or credit union, the you can take the high rate with the $4000 of and refinance after 3 months. Even then, you don't save a LOT of money and it takes you 63 months to buy the car.

I see many people on here who have their own interpretations of OUT THE DOOR. To me that means, what is on the bottom of that invoice, after taxes tags, and everything else. People generally use the term out the door, without including anything else but what they paid for the car. It's a phrase that would have more meaning if people remembered to include everything extra that comes into play after you buy the car. Many don't so I too find it meaningless on this forum, because it's rarely ever accurate.
