About to buy, not sure if this is a good price on a new 06 RX8
This is a base model with manual 6 speed, winning blue located in a dealership somewhere in TX. It is a 2006 model. Before TT&L they are giving it to me for $22,490 after all the "rebates" mazda is offering and $24,195.03 out the door.
I saw an ad somewhere saying $6000 off msrp but they are saying its not that much and they are misleading us and it is actually just $3000 off.
Please let me know because we are planning to buy it very soon, prob not today since I am iffy on the price.

Try to get the invoice price for that car too. If you can 'exaggerate' with a straight face tell `em your brother said he could get you S-Plan pricing through another dealership and see what they offer you.
Also, check Edmunds.COM pricing for that car. Treat it like a used car with the actual mileage, even if that's only 13 miles and see what Edmunds says about it's value.
Offhand, I think their price is way high, but I haven't looked anything up just now because I'm not the one about to buy a car.

True story of my experience -
* I had a limited budget, I was looking for a used RX-8. I made tons of phone calls - even kept a small notebook journalling who I'd called and what I'd discussed with them (because there's no way to keep it all straight past a week and/or past a dozen phone calls).
* One guy said he didn't have a used RX-8, but he'd look for me. This guy calls back and says, "I found a brand new 2004, never sold. It had a high MSRP `cause it's loaded, but what if I could let you have it for Invoice price? Would we have a deal?"
* Sadly, I couldn't afford that. I was disappointed, because the configuration was perfect, but it was just too much.
* A week and a half later I run across a dealership selling a brand new 2004, it's got an odd configuration, brand-new, same mileage as that "for-Invoice" deal told me about. That dealership is selling the car for $4,000 *under* Invoice.
Can you say "slimey weasel trying to pocket $4,000 for nothing?"
Can you say "it pays to be a cautious and informed buyer?"
Beat the bushes hard, do your homework, and don't trust anyone trying to sell you a car they don't actually own.
(you know, if that guy hadn't tried to rape me outright I probably would have be happy to send him $100 for hooking me up with that other dealership in the next state, but that's not how he played it - let the buyer beware)

The damn car was sold. And the other car they have at the other dealership has already 300-400 miles on it. To ship it here they would have to drive it again.
I found a base 2006 RX-8 about 45 min away but they wont go lower than 25,790 on the phone even after I told them another dealer has offered me 24,190 O.D. on a base with spoiler.
She said the car is 25,790 O.D. because it has a sports package but I was welcome to come and talk to her manager and see if hes willing to budge the price. (she said she doubts that would happen tho) So I told her I am not driving so far just on a possibility.
Damn it, I guess I wont be able to afford an RX-8. .

If you've got the 24k in cash try to get financed for a couple thousand. Even with little or no credit I would expect you should be able to get financed on a 2 or 3 year loan with 75% down-payment.
Or, consider buying used.
If you can only get financed for 24k for a new car the bank would probably set a much lower limit for a used one. Might just have to save up for another year or so.
Do watch your regional forum and adds though. I've seen RX-8s selling used for just under $20,000 on a pretty regular basis.

Well see what happened was I have this 240sx (1997) with like 10-15k invested in it. I am driving to school and some lady hits me from the back.
Insurance totals it because the aftermarket parts exceed the repair value of the car. So for a car that sells for around 10k now (market value a lot higher for a 97-98) and 10-15k worth of mods, they hand me a check for $6300.
So now I cant afford the same car, and I have no rental. My whole winter break has been ruined.
So I speak with my father, we hire a lawyer who will be lucky to get us 10-15k out of all of this. (I talked to atleast 3 lawyers).
My father and I finnaly decide to either buy the same car or get me a new car so it can last me thru college. He first says a car in the 21-22 MSRP is OK. I try the GTI and WRX, dont like either of them. Yeah i loved the STI but that ***** is 34k MSRP.
One day, while stranded at home, I see an ad for 6000 off MSRP on all 06 RX-8's. I notice that the base model is 27 and get all excited. So we goto that dealership and find nothing. So that whole day we drove from dealer to dealer and they only are offering 3k off if we use MAC. I find one dealer that can get 2 in range. And as you can read from the above posts, that wont work.
The one we found in stock in Houston has 500 miles on it and is making some sort of burning smell. And the TPMS light was going off during the test drive. When I drove a RX8 (07) with 40 miles it made no smell but apparently a car with over 500 miles does smell. BS
At this rate I am so mad I just want to get a POS civic and say FK everything. I cant wait a year because school starts in 2 weeks.

Your situation stinks - sorry to hear that lady smashed your other car. It's too bad you don't have a bit more price or time flexibility - either might allow you get score an RX-8 by some means. I'd still suggest looking into slightly used ones.

Holy **** a GT for 23 before T T L? Damn it!!!!!
They have this phantom blue mica with sport package 25,709 O.D. Maybe I can push the budget to 25, but they wont even go that low from what it sounds like over the phone.
Dude when did you buy yours? And in what state? Can you tell me exactly what rebates you were allowed to use?
The only 2 rebates ive found at any dealer/edmunds is 1000 for MAC and 2000 for their Go time that ended on the 2nd but they are apparently still offering it.

And I'm not one of those guys who "ALWAYS gets a good deal on cars." I usually just pay MSRP and be done with since I know that they are in business to make money and not to give the car away. Plus, I HATE haggling and lowballing! I feel like a dirt bag, knit-picking flaws on a car trying to get a few hundred bucks off. There was no haggling involved! Even in evaluating my trade-in, I got a fair price. With a modest down, the monthlys on my 8 are lower than my bike. And I'm not a rich cat or have super-great credit either.
I got the last Phantom Blue. There was a few other GTs, a Touring, and a Sport. I've never heard of "base," however. But the rebates were applicable to ALL 2006 RX8s since the 2007s were comming soon. Anyhoo, call other dealerships and check newspaper adds. Especially now, like I said, the 2007s are HERE, you shouldn't have to pay that much for an '06. If you want, call Putnam Mazda at 650-347-4800 and ask for Morry. Ask him what rebates they were giving for the '06 RX8s and he'll confirm...$10k off MSRP. Don't be bullied by dealers, especially if you are SERIOUS to buy. They should be doing everything to earn your business. Then, again don't think you are thier only customer...
I hope this helps you and good luck with your hunting.

I put a break-down of one of the "amazing" deals on old-model-year cars there. If you're getting a GREAT deal it won't be MAC + Go Time + some other program. It'll be a pile of dealer cash or trunk money, plus some incidental rebates. I've never heard a name for those outrageous $8000 discounts - it's just the price they're offering.

ya! there was this one dealership offering the standard 2000$ off from mazda, then a 4000$ dealer cash off the RX-8! Thats without MAC. But he wont pull off other lots and he only had one rx8 with AT.
I guess we could drive the 45 min and see what kind of luck we run into before I settle for something I dont like.

man! Now one dealer is offering us D.O. under 25 (2007 base) and we told another dealership that we want our deposit back since the car we wanted was sold. They suddenly called and said they can do an 07 for the same price....WTF, the other day they were ready to throw us out now they want our business

Congrats man, glad you got one. I hope you enjoy it. Is it a base model? Be extra careful if it is - you'll see a lot of people on this board talk about how great the traction control and automatic stability control are, but the base mode does not have that.

Yes it is base. Are those options impossible/worth adding later on? I will do a search when I wake up tomorrow to see if I can find more info. Please no flame!
Thanks for the congrats, I love the car!
