2004 Rx8 Gt

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking for an RX8 all summer and finally found a very clean example at a private used car dealer.

I have just been pretty apprehensive about buying one because of the high depreciation.

So I found an almost fully loaded GT package car with everything except Nav and only 16,000 miles. It was an auction purchase.

The dealer wants $19,000 for it which is the lowest dealer price that I have seen. Lower than a lot of private sale cars with higher mileage.

The Car Fax is clean and said it was owned in NY for approximately 2 years 7 months.

The car isnt perfect but it's close (a couple small very light scratches and a tiny bit of light curb rash on the wheels).

Is there any reason why the car would be priced this low? I was very impressed and could not find any noticeable ding repairs or repaint areas.

Am I missing something?

I guess the conclusion to this is that buying a used car from a dealer that bought it off auction sucks because you never know its history.

Is there a way that you can use the VIN to trace back service records from Mazda dealers?

actually, that price is high for an '04 and would pay only $18K even for those low miles. the warranty will be up soon just based on the number of years so you'll want to factor that in. just b/c it was bought at an auction shouldn't worry you but you'll want to make sure it has been checked out thoroughly. carfax will only tell you if there was a problem in which an insurance claim was made so it isn't the be all end all. also make sure the latest flashes, recalls, etc. have been taken care of.

you dont say if its a manual or an auto. either way, thats way to high.

i know a guy selling a black gt, 47k miles, with the red/black interior, full options, tinted, painted calipers, extended 100k warranty, etc etc for 16k. and its nearly flawless. it is an automatic though. but i've heard from another rx8 friend, that a friend of his picked up a grey rx8 for 12k with, i think similar mileage. however, it was simply stock.

i bought an 05 rx8 gt red/black interior, 20k mileage, for 20k. it was in good condition and i thought the price was decent. however, with a little research, i found out later that if you look and wait a bit. you can find deals to save you a few grand. however, i wanted it asap due to a blown transmission in my former car. so w/e.

I just bought my 2004 GT line from a dealership in Cincinnati. Had 40,200 miles on it, more or less. Paid $17,500 for it.

They had 3 on the lot with approximately the same mileage, and an asking price of $18,995 for all 3.

Mine also has the factory spoiler, and aero side flares & lower bumper (not sure what all the different pieces are called).

So I'd say $19k is a couple grand too much to pay for that one, for sure.

Actually the warrenty was extened another year or more.

The value of that car is 18 18k.

It just so happens you can get it cheaper in other places of the country.

Try out this section and you may get a better deal.

If you have financing.
