Trade 04 automatic w/30k miles for 2004 GT Rx8 (6spd) demo w/6000 miles never titled?

Ive recently moved and went to service my 2004 automatic Rx8 w/30k miles on it at a new dealership andI saw a red 2004 6spd manual Rx8 w/Grand Touring two tone red&black leather and almost 6000 miles on it - never titled. They say this "technically" makes it a brand new car w/a shitload of miles. Exterior and interior were perfect condition. Apparently the owner of the dealership kept that one for 5000 miles or so. Theyve had the car on their lot since May 2004. Salesman I dealed with claims its thelast 2004 Rx8 left in the area (I cant really verify that b/c 2004s dont come up anymore in my area whenI search on Mazdas site but it may be true).

While waiting for my car in service I wantedto see what the numbers would be likeon a swap for something like this - since a turbo kit for my automatic would run me a little over 5000 + additionals for it to workon my car + no more warranty.
So I figured what the hell and yanked the guys chain and acted like I was interested in swapping. They wanted togive me 20000 for my 2004 sports package automatic (which was pretty decent I thought) - its got 29k miles on it - small crack on the front bumper right before the grile (barely noticeable) which would need to be completely replaced- small deep scratch on the right of the rear bumper (whichneeds to be completely repainted) - ding on the hood and a couple dings on the left and right doors. Ive owned it for nearly 2 years.

Anyway after an hour of deliberations the lowest I got them down to on the 2004 6spd GT thats been sitting on their lot for nearly a year w/just about 6000 miles on it is 26000 out the door. They looked looked atme asif that were some amazing hot **** deal but I wasnt so impressed especially after reading that others on here have picked up 04 GT Rx8s w/NAV and less than 1000 miles on them for 24000 out the door. Swapping my 2 year old 30kmiles automatic to an untitled 2004 6spd GT w/6k miles for 6000 sounds too high. Even w/that Gerber rebate I justread about thatwould only knock it down to 5500.

I guess I shouldnt be too surprised - Imean it is a South Florida based stealership after all. Though Iwas only half serious - Id probably get more money for the 6spd GT in a couple years than for my automatic sports package. Then againI could just keep mine and go the turbo route in a few months.

I do think theyare giving me a lot for my dinged up automatic Rx8 (w/only sports package) but what do you guysthink about this? How muchwould you say a never titled 2004 6spd Rx8 GT w/6000 miles was worth out the door today?

Also forgot to mention that they will extend the warranty to 56000 miles since this vehicle alreadyhas 6000 miles on it. I currently have a Titanium (my favorite color) while this 04 that they have is red (one of my least favorite).

Go to carmax and see what they will pay for your car. And try to negotiate the used oned 6mt to $25k. You are going from a 30k miles to 6k miles which I think is worth the $6k jump in itself- (my reasoning 24k mile difference about $3k a year in savings)... and it's a GT.

well, i think that 26k is way to high, imho. I got the same car (red, gt package) as a demo about 3 months ago. It had a little less than 3k miles on it. And the dealer sold it to me for 2000 less than your dealer is trying to get rid of thiers for. But it also could be due to the different areas we live in and how many 04's are still available. When i bought mine the dealer still had like 8 or 9 04's and i think that they were really trying to get rid of them. So i guess its all situational, but i think that 26000 is a bit high.

I paid right around $23k for my '04 6spd Touring with 200 miles (I was originally quoted $24k, in comparison to the 16k mile used GT for $25k from Carmax). I think if you spent a little more time in the office and threatened to leave a couple times, they might come down. The only problem is that the car they have on the lot now is easier to move than the one you'd be trading them, so they might not be as apt to deal. Of course, you have to take into account what you owe on your current car versus what they will give you (i.e. if you owe more than $20k, then the difference in your new loan will be higher than the $6k). You also have to realize that you will once again have to pay sales tax, title, and license fees, and you may be asked to pay all that up front in lieu of a down payment. The big issue is how much equity you have built up on your current car and if you're comfortable taking on an additional principal amount and extending the life of your loan (almost negating anything you've paid in the last two years).

I guess it would depend what is on it. Its is hard when you are working with a trade in because as you know you can make the trade in number anything you want so the difference is the key. Looking at black book I would guess the dealer is looking at your car's trade in at around $18,000 to a high of $19,000, depending on the damage you were talking about. so if your car value is 18K then you get the car for 24K etc. To give you an example my RX 8 stickered for 36,600 with all of the options and Mazda accessories the dealer had put on. The advertised on the window $7,000 off. I traded in a 99 Grand Prix with 92,000 miles on it. Trade in value 3500 to 4000 (optimistically) They first offered 3250 and ended up showing $5000 in trade. Deal broke down like this:

$36,600
- 5,000 trade
- 8,700 discount
__________
$22,900 difference

Actually my car was worth $3500 to them so the discount was $10,200. My car has Nav but I did not care if it had it or not and they knew it. My RX 8 had less than a 100 miles (I purchased 3/26/05) . There was another RX 8 in town with same options (aprox) with 6,000 miles and they were asking $28,900 I did not get to deal with them because I bought this one. My thought was if I can get $8,000 plus off it was a fair deal looks like you are getting about $8300 at the minimum. (I am guessing a sticker of $33,300)

The thing is if you don't like the color look around. Sorry for the long reply
