It's highly unlikely that anybody would get bothered for this.
I got pulled over once by WSP near Cle Elum on I-90 in my last car and the cop actually checked my tint w/ a special tool, then gave me crap about my rear tail lights. Funny thing is, everything was stock. WSU had gotten out earlier that day and I think he was hoping that I was a student (I wasn't) and that a big cloud of smoke would come out when I rolled down the window.

That being said, I'm in! I say Tech Auto because its cheaper but I'd do Darkside.

FYI - I'm checking with my brother (Fusion), my sister (Escalade) and her husband (Civic Si) - we might be able to add 3 cars to the list if they still wanna do it.

Are they quoting a price for 10 RX8's, or doesn't it matter?

You can count me in, I would prefer to do this in January though. Christmas season is killing my finances right now

Do we know what brand name of tint is being used? Some are better than others in terms of color retention and overall quality...

I had them quote 10 RX8's, but I don't think it matters. I have another friend or two with other cars that may want to do it as well.

I asked my siblings today and they said the holidays are killing their finances too. We'll have to count them out.

Skinless, Do we have to do it all at the same time, or could some of us do it now and others later?

Actually the type of car does matter, some cost more than others to tint. Might want to ask before switching cars...

Well, I'm sold on the graphic tint now, so I wont be joining this group buy. I've been chatting with the proprietor of Nice Tint in Bremerton. When it's done, it'll be really cool.

What sort of tint are you doing?

Well, I found the place in Puyallup who'd do it for the $180 I remembered. All Honestly, saving $15 wouldn't make it worth it for me to drive to seattle for the install; nevermind having to get BACK to seattle if I need to claim warranty service. Thus, I'm going to bow-out...very sorry to all.

If anyone wants to make the trip to Puyallup, the shop said he could go as low as $160 if he could get three cars either on the same day, or pre-paid. All the normal guarantees (for life, etc, against color changes or whatever) apply.

Bummer for us... good for you though. Makes sense to stay in the south end. Let us know how it goes!

I'm getting the logo from my website to fill the back window, and a smaller version for the wing windows. Part of what pushed me to the decision is that, because I'm trying to make a little money from the site, I can claim the entire tint job as a business expense if I include the web address, and in addition, because my car will be a rolling bill board, all my mileage gets to be deducted as well. :D If you make a living off your lifestyle, your lifestyle becomes tax deductible.

I'm in too, especially since I can walk to The Dark Side from where I live.

Hope kristopher is making more than a "little" money off his web site because the IRS frowns on "businesses" that seem to always loose money in the end. Maybe I'll put my name on the back of my window and see if the IRS will let me deduct anything I can fit in my car

The rules allow either 5 or 7 years of losses before an annual profit is required to maintain business status. I'm actively working the project in the hopes that sometime in the not too distant future I can legitimately argue that I'd make more money going for a drive than going in to work.

Looks like we have all of the people we are going to get. I'm pretty sure we can get the same deal I got quoted with 7 cars. So now we probably need to pick a date. How about Saturday, December 16th? I'm not sure if they'll be able to do all of the cars in the same day, and maybe others can do it on another weekend. I'll call tomorrow and get more information (tint brand, etc...). Let me know if there's something you'd like me to ask.

I might be able to do it on the 16th if it was later in the afternoon. But I'm totally open the 17th through the 23rd, and then again the 26th through Jan 7th.

Ok, just got off the phone with Dark Side Glass Coating. They don't have a block of one or two days that will work for everybody, so everybody needs to call individually and schedule their own. Tell them that you are with the RX-8 group tint to get the discount ($165 + tax). They have lot's of openings during the week but not too many on weekends. Here is their information:

Dark Side Glass Coating
13758 Lake City Way NE
Seattle, WA
(206) 367-7157

Other information: They use Madico brand tint. It has a lifetime warranty. It's not covered if you scratch it with something. The RX-8 will take about 2 1/2 hours per car. After they are done you won't want to roll the windows down for about 2 days because it could mess up the film.

So call them and schedule your tint, then post here or PM me so I can keep track of how many we've got.

Anyone have any info - good or bad - on Madico tint? I know nothing about the subject.

I talked with a couple tinters a month or so ago when I had some spare money. Apparently Madico and Solargard are both pretty good brands for non-metal tint film.

I'm going to call and make my January appointment tomarrow morning before work

Is everyone going with non-metal tint? I think Revlis went metal and the place he went to (Auto Trim Design) gave him a hard time about it interfering with his radio antenna, but he says he hasn't had any problems.
