Seat Advice

So unfortunately, I have outgrown my Rx8, and the only possible way I can drive it now is if I stick my head in the sunroof cutout :c

Its even worse when I'm wearing a helmet, since I have to tilt my head to sit up properly, so :D I need a new seat, has anyone found a reputable shop that would be willing to install one for me? I found this store in Bellevue, was gonna check it out this weekend

You might want to try Cantrell Motorsports. They Sponsored one of the track days with ProFormance this summer. I asked if they do seats because I'd like one too and they said to come down and they would fit me to see what seat works best. He said they install too, but we never talked prices. The owner of ProFormance spoke very highly of his shop. I think it would be at least worth a call.

A bucket seat will give you plenty of head room, even you being super tall. Buy a seat/brackets and install yourself. Its only 4 bolts.

Scott when you do another track day ill let you barrow my Bride seat to try. You just have to come pick it up

Oooo when did you get a bride? How do you like that compared to your sparco?

I might want to take you up on that. I was hoping to track on tuesday but I have mandatory overtime but friday the 11th there is a day (I'm waiting for better weather) and I would love to see the difference between the stock and a real seat. I'm tired of being thrown around

Sparco sells a RX-8 specific seat base for both the left and right sides... but good luck getting one! I have been trying for months.. could just be my vendor though.

I've had the brides since April. They are very nice, though I'm getting a little fat for them. Love handles are lil snug, so you would fit perfect.

When I'm doing my thing I remove the butt pad to sit myself a little lower in the seat. With the way I have it setup and a helmet on I can put a fist between me and the roof. I was going to cut the floor seat supports and weld in some .5x1.0 rectangle tubing but I sit fine for now. The FD is more important anyways.

The seats look awesome! Can you use the stock seat belts?

Oh, and I wasn't laughing that you had two seats, I was laughing that Mike and I can each borrow one haha

The drivers seat can you the stock seat belt but currently my passenger cannot. I need the passenger seat bar off a eariler year. Reason is my year bolts to the seat and not the body.

Sadly you both cannot barrow a seat. The drivers and passenger seat brackets are totally different. Offer still stands Scott.

Thanks. Question for you....when you bought the seat for your passenger, do you order a passenger seat or do you order two of the same seats and different brackets? Just curious.

I went out and did some seat shopping today (actually just went and sat in some) Thanks for telling me about 425 motorsports. I first went to Cantrell because I really wanted the Recaro Profi. It was very tight and the XL model was way too big. I then went to 425 and sat in a few and really liked the OMP WRC seat. It fit really good. Hopefully next spring I'll have a seat.

Also I went and bought a pair of actual race shoes, what a difference!

I wood like other people opinion, went my wife use my Rx8 she puts the seat all the way up. I have try to use the car with the seat all the way up, but I feel out of place. What you guys think, am I been to peaky or is all the way down a better position?

I think it depends on how tall or short you are. I have been taught to set the seat with my back flat against the back of the seat and my arms stretched straight forward with my wrists at the top of the steering wheel. This puts a nice bend in my arms when my hands are at the 9 and 3 position. Also what is most comfortable to the driver is probably the most important. There is no particular "better" position.

If you are talking about the elevation of the seat, I think that is also driver preference, depending on how long or short your torso is.

Cool, let me know. How easy is it to get in and out? RawrX8 has a removable wheel, so he solved that problem.
