RIWWP + others coming through in September

Just a heads up in case any of you haven't seen it.

I am headed to Sevenstock from Rhode Island in September, and after Sevenstock I am driving up PCH to Portland or Seattle, before turning back east. Vlaze (CT) and Adamwzl (PA) are almost committed to the entire trip as well.

Would love to meet up with any of you for a bit at a minimum. If anyone happens to be around a nightly stop and doesn't mind putting us up for the night as well, that would be awesome It will be the OR/CA border on the coast for the night of the 20th, and likely eastern WA the night of the 21st.

Here is my thread:

If you're only going to make it to Portland, we should see if we can convince one of the Portland rotary shops to hold a BBQ. If you can make it up to Seattle, we're stuffing your face full of Dick's

I should be passing through Portland roughly mid-day. I do have 3 days of leeway in the drive back, not really on a schedule, I just have to keep scheduling in mind, as a stop of 4-6 hours could easily make me miss a overnight stay offer completely, and I would need to search again. Again, not specifically a problem, but something I have to pay attention to.

Attending an event would be worth stopping for and shifting the schedule. I see your Dick event jokes constantly....

It will be a cold juice, milk, or water on my end

I don't drink alcohol. I love thinking and driving too much.

If you want you can even advertise that I am driving ~4,000 miles to b e your DD for the night?

Thanks. If the timing works out, I will take you up on it.

If there isn't going to be an event here, then my stay that night will be eastern WA, north tip of Idaho, or western MT. Depending on how much time PCH takes up, or if there are any fantastic detours off the highways that I find I absolutely MUST hit. (Hint hint)

Otherwise, if there is an event in Portland or Seattle that day (should be Tuesday the 21st), then I will be staying the night. It would give me more of a resting point, and saving that hotel money as mentioned.

I think I did just settle on turning east in Seattle, and taking the I-90 north route. Several reasons to are popping up, the south route just isn't contesting.

Any ideas when you would know if/when/where you would be stopping in Eastern Pennsy? That would be my only shot. I actually live just over the River in Jersey. Of course it depends just how Eastern and just how Southern in PA you're looking at...

Wow. Wrong side of the country.

This thread was just a heads up for the northwest people in their own regional forum.

But I likely won't be stopping in eastern PA. It's only about 5 hours from home for me, so definitely not on the way out, and the timing would have to make it so that I just couldn't quite make it home the last day. At that point though, I have lots of friends and family about an two hours south of you, so I probably wouldn't take you up on it.

That's handy. It lowers the fine on the ticket

Not quite. I drive fast, but I don't go much over the speed limit in areas I don't know. Road condition, road layout, police presence chance, or other stuff throws too much risk in to be comfortable.

The speed limit in ID is 70 - 75. In MT it is 75 and if you drive at that speed many will pass you!

One of them probably being me!

Er. Wait.

Lets just say that on roads I know and am comfortable with where it is safe and not stupid, I have a hard time driving at speeds that begin with anything but a 1.

A long family history of fighter pilots in my blood. Speed doesn't affect me the way it does most, and too slow I literally start falling asleep from lack of sensory input.

Plenty of people passed me fairly easily when I was doing 75-85. The cops did not seem to care. Unless you are driving like an idiot they will leave you alone.

We have 1 road in RI that is 65. The rest is 55 or lower. We even have 1 highway which is 3 lanes, about 6 miles long, 3 exits total...and 50mph speed limit. It's seriously a revenue source for the state. No reason at all for the speed limit to be that low.

Then again, it could be worse. NY has a state wide 55mph speed limit. VA is close, a few exceptions, etc...

State wide meaning 55 on majority of backroads which covers a lot more roads than other states I've been in that drop down to 45.

Highways usually go for 65 out of the city.

Is 55 limit in NY new? I used to go back and forth on the I-90 corridor from upstate to MA all the time and it was 65 the whole way.

Also, +1 on I-90 being the better trip back. It'll take you to at least PA right? Then I assume you'd cut south before Albany but this trip could be an excuse to see the Cape Cod/Boston folks, neh?

I see them all the time Boston is only 45 minutes away, Cape Cod roughly the same. My autocross's are at Ayer MA, near Harvard, etc...

The sound route being I-80, north route being I-90, and from Chicago to Cleveland, they are the same road.... west of Chicago is the only difference, since they join together there.
