I have to agree with the baby blue. The manly-crescent-wrench-hammer-rib-eye-steak-blue would be dark blue to almost black blue
And yea you have to pay to remove the watermark. I think I'll buy the CD to get all the pix of my car. The only thing that sucks is I really like the photos of me passing the lotus, and those won't be included.
I think we might have crashed the redmist site. It's down right now haha

Congratulations; you have now taken your first toke from the go-fast crack pipe, and there's no going back.
I did Don's first school a bit over five years ago, with my son. We ramped up from there to lots of track days; now we've been wheel-to-wheel racing for a couple of years. More fun and excitement that can be conveyed, but more money that either of us wants to think about, too.
Beware....

I did track days for two years after Don's first school, mostly with Proformance. I did a lot of track days, two a month or so when weather permitted. I got good; I typically as one of the fastest out there, in my S2000 (I never tracked the RX-8, but my wife and middle child did Don's school in it). But I started getting (i) frustrated at the slower drivers, even in the "fast" group, who wouldn't let me by (mostly Porsches who couldn't believe that a Honda was faster), and (ii) concerned over the safety of a tall person tracking a stock S2000, (iii) a bit bored with track days, with the limited rules of engagement, and the "7/10" rules; and (iv) curious about racing.
In the meantime, I had been autocrossing regularly. I still do (I'm heading to Packwood for the NT this weekend). Autocross isn't nearly as fun, for me, but it is less expensive, and it is an excellent way to learn car control skills.
I drove a Spec Miata when I was down at Thunderhill with Proformance three years ago, and fell in love with it. I bought one at the end of the summer of 2006, and started racing. To my great shock, I was a back-marker in my first six race weekends; after having been a track day stud, I expected otherwise, but I learned that I hadn't really learned to drive anywhere close to the edge (that "7/10" thing biting me in the backside).
Now I'm solidly mid-pack, and love it.
You may or may not end up with the same path. Racing is incredibly expensive, even SM racing. But, I would encourage you to use the good Proformance instructors for most of your track days. Tell them what you want to work on, and they'll help you get faster (within the Proformance rules of engagement).
And autocrossing is a good thing to do, also.
I'll see if I can get my son to chime in (he also has an RX-8).

I think you covered it pretty well. Do track days and autox. If it looks like you have a knack for it, and don't mind throwing money into a fire tens of thousands of dollars at a time, start road racing.

If I can get my "stuff" together and swap tires, I wanna do a track day. I think I need inspiration like this! All I gotta do is do it! (I actually DID talk to the Dependable Wheel guys BTW - just gotta make an appt and get my wheels/tires down there)

I need to get my summer tires and my extra set of wheels (with tires on them) down to Dependable. They will swap/mount and fix all the dings and rash. Then I gotta get the 2nd set of wheels back home. Actually, I should just order my new all seasons now too and get it over with, so they can mount them too.

I really would encourage it. 124Spider is right, there's no way to convey the fun, feelings and emotion you experience when going around the track. It has to be experienced. The instructors do an amazing job in coaching you where to be how fast to go and when to slow down. I never felt pushed or held back. I never felt unsafe around the track and only had one wobble when I messed up and stabbed at the brakes going into the slow down before 5A, (stability control kept me in line) which was my mistake, it's amazing how easy it can be when you follow the line. It just flat out works. They put out cones at the entrance, apex and exit, when your car hits those points it keeps you on the track at some insane speeds. And the 8 likes the track!!
Good luck and I hope you'll be able to get out there

When I was tracking my S2000, I had six sets of tires/wheels for it: (i) Summer tires; (ii) winter tires; (iii) autocross tires; (iv) wet day track tires (full-tread RA-1's); (v & vi) and two sets of shaved RA-1's. Now that I don't track it any more, I'm down to "only" four sets (still have the full-tread RA-1's, for fun street driving and wet-day autocrossing).
But, of course, I have four sets of wheels/tires for the Spec Miata, so the count has only increased.
I have a very patient wife.
