Pacific Raceways

I just completed the Proformance One-Day High Performance Driving Clinic today at Pacific Raceways. All I can say is that that was the most insane thing I've ever done. It was amazing to see what my car could do. I remember going around the track thinking, my car shouldn't be able to do this, but it could, and could still do much more. I am still on such a driving high. I know you can't compare the two cars, but it was so much fun passing a 600 HP Cobra Mustang . I was told that he would smoke his tires in the valley either before turn 4 or after 4 because his car had so much power. There were a lot of very powerful cars there today, and I gotta say it was fun being able to mash it to the floor and not worrying about breaking traction. This is such a fun track car. Hitting Turn 1 at 120 MPH and not being able to see around the wall was crazy. If anyone is thinking about taking the school, I think it's well worth the money. DO IT!!!

I have been thinking about it for some time. As soon as I take care of some other bills that is one of the first things on my 'gotta do for me' list.

How hard was it to calm down and drive like a normal law abiding citizen afterward?

Sounds like a great time. Did you get any pictures from the track?

The really wierd thing is I was amazingly calm after getting back on the road, and didn't feel the need to blast it. I went with the flow of traffic of course when i got on I-5 north and it was doing 75, but it was like this is no big deal.

I had doubts about buying the car regarding the cost and the cost of ownership and then there's the practicality of the car, which isn't much, but all I can say is yesterday erased any doubt. This was the best thing I've ever done.

The cost of the course is a lot before you take it, but after completing it I think it was a bargain. I was also lucky enough to have a great instructor where between us we had great communication and trust and he was able to get me to drive like I didn't think was possible.

There was a professional taking pictures and they should be posted soon on www.redmistphoto.com for the 7-6-09 Proformance Racing School gallery.

ALSO don't forget to check your oil!! and go there with a full tank of gas. I filled up in Kent, did the morning exercises, got lunch in Covington drove three sessions, and left the track with the gas light on. I went and bought gas in Kent on the way home, I had driven 122 miles and put in almost 14 gal. of gas the math came out to 8.99 MPG. My oil level when I checked while buying gas in the morning was half way between the first and second dot, so 3/4 of a quart down. After I finished the course before leaving the track I checked the oil and it was on the bottom. So basically you'll use a tank of gas and a quart of oil.

On my second to last lap of the day on the straight away before turn 1, I was in 4th gear and when I hit 6000 RPM the car bogged, I thought it was transmission problems or it popped out of gear (though it didn't rev up. I was also going about 110 MPH and having a car problem with a turn coming up so not able to be to clear with problem solving) I took it out of gear, put it back in, and then again at 6000 RPM it bogged as if hitting the rev limiter. As I continued the course and on the remaining turns I was in third and able to rap it out. On the final lap I put in 4th and I was able to rap it out.

Could this be the low oil (though not below the low mark?) I didn't have any warning lights on, oil pressure was above halfway. My gas light wasn't on and I thought I was at 1/4 of a tank so I should of had enough fuel flow. It was wierd.

Any thoughts???

It's crazy how fast you burn that stuff. When we did the Porsche school I did 23 miles on the first 1/4 of the tank and half a quart of oil down. I always make sure my oil is full before even Autocrosses though.

Sounds like a good time though, I've definitely considered doing it before, maybe later this summer, once I've moved.

Sorry I keep posting here, but I am still so amped!! To those who haven't done this, there is no way to conceive of how cool this is until you've done it. Watching youtube videos of the track and playing racing simulators cannot give you the sensations of the forces and speeds.

On the track, and taking turn 5/A in third gear then right before you're hitting the apex of 5/B the instructor tells you to put the pedal to the floor and you then take turn 6 not being able to see around the corner to well, and then keeping the pedal down through turn 7, and as you're coming out of six and coming up to seven there's a large wall of tires in front of you to your right, and as long as you take the line properly it's all good.

I think I drank the whole pitcher

I have signed up for the track day on the 21st. I'll get signed off then to drive solo. I wish I could drive the whole day, but with work I'll need to get a little sleep. And the sucky thing is it's $225 for a half day and $260 for the whole day =(

I now have ti grey rims. there is so much brake dust on them.

Go to http://www.proformanceracingschool.com/ and click schedule. If you don't have your license you'll need to also pay for an hours worth of an instructor which will cost $125, after you've been signed off you're good to go solo. The question will be, did your other track school qualify for their track days?

There is a track day on the 21st and then another full track day on the 28th.

You should contact them and ask. It couldn't hurt and then it gives you more options for track days to choose from

...never let the gas get below 1/4 tank on track...strange things will happen ...simple fuel starvation is the problem but it feels like rev limiter or terrible engine cough, cough, cough and it doesn't show immediately in the corner that caused it, the gas in the pipe runs out a bit later....like on a straight. Just always get a fill at 2/3 down regardless

...liking that track time huh?

The pictures were just posted on the guys site. I'll probably buy some. you can see them at http://www.redmistphoto.com/gallery/...84927066_xnv8V

There were also some really nice cars there. I was hoping it would lap, but there was a silver Ford GT in the parking lot. That has to be my favorite car. If you haven't seen it in real life, it looks that much better than it does in pictures. There was an R8 out on the track. Also the Daytona that was in my run group was a replica, not that it matters it still looked cool. It was fun lapping that one too I remember coming around some turns and I was gaining on him and my instructor told me get on number 35's tail and let him know we want to pass. I started laughing because I told him, "ok, but he doesn't have any kind of traction control and he sure has a lot more to lose if he ditches the car and my instructor started laughing too and he said yea you're right.

After passing the Audi Audi RS6 after turn 2 I noticed the Cayman on my tail. I asked the instructor are we going to let him pass on the next let by zone after 3/B? He said lets make him work for it, so I took the turns pretty good and pulled away a bit, and he didn't come back till about turn 8, after turn 9 I let him pass, and as soon as I took my foot off the gas, my intsructor said nope put your foot back on it to the floor. Sure enough, that Cayman blew by me. What a fun day!
