Exclamation

Hi all! I didn't post my dyno last year, and this thread has got me feeling guilty . The run is on 5th gear, IIRC. There were/are no mods to the car other than Tanabe Springs...and Royal Purple oil. Like Shaunv74, this is uncorrected with the temp @ 64.3 °F.

Thanks everyone for posting your results! I'll hopefully have some sort of 'mod' next time to attend this event.

Goodbye!
Edgardo

I guess you're right, until I commute to work all week long. I know. I'll just pull the room fuse every Friday before leaving work. That way, as long as I drive hard all weekend, she should stay in that more aggressive fuel trim, right? Of course, that HP comes from leaning out the mixture, so I guess I still have to accept the blame.

Right on!!!

Naw I'm not trying to put anyone else down. I was just trying to get some discussion going on what would cause the differences. If there is something that runs well on my car I'd like to find out what it is and try and help out the community. That's all.

Kris,

Do you mind if I borrow your "room fuse" dyno to do a "Motivate me poster?"

I made one and sent it to Kris to use as he sees fit. I don't want to rain on his parade.

For those like me that do not know what the room fuse is, can you provide some back ground? What is the room fuse for? Why does it increase whp?

racingbeat.com

In developing this flash, we disconnected the Front Oxygen Sensor so that we had a stable, unchanging platform. Otherwise, the system would continually develop new trims that we would have to chase. Of course, it is not appropriate for you to do this (except in racing) because the system NEEDS the oxygen feedback information to correct the engine’s operation at light to moderate throttle settings. The fact is, in our experience, the PCM will usually build a 2% to 3.5% top level trim, which means the engine is running that much richer than best power mixture. In general, this is a small amount, and will only cause a fraction of 1% loss of power. On the other hand, if you don't want to run with this factor (i.e. racing applications), you have two choices:

1. Disconnect the Front Oxygen Sensor (at the top of the bell housing), pull and reinstall the "ROOM" fuse (in the left kick panel) to eliminate the 3 trim levels, and the PCM will NEVER build a fuel trim (it will turn on the "Check Engine" light, but that's all).

2. As an alternative, you can simply warm the engine prior to a competition run, shut off the engine, pull and reinstall the "ROOM" fuse, and begin your competition shortly after starting the engine. In this way, the engine never sees the "cruise" operation it needs to build the trim level.

The system has huge amounts of self-diagnosis capability. It detects most malfunctions immediately, although it may delay turning on the "check engine" light for a number of start cycles, depending on the malfunction. In many cases it can clear a malfunction (i.e., turn off the "check engine" light) by itself if the problem is corrected or stops occurring.

Am I missing the saracasm in this thread regarding the "room fuse"? Or is everyone serious ? Maybe my monitor/lcd screen is a little blurry, this is what I see from Kris's dyno:

run 2: 187.9
run 3: 193.0
run 4: 194.4 (Fuse pulled?)
run 5: 195.3 Fuse pulled

A difference of 5.1 (193.0-187.9) HP between runs 2 & 3 with the fuse in.
A difference of 2.3 (195.3-193.0) HP between runs 3 & 5 from where the fuse was pulled.

There seems to be a greater difference simply between runs 2 & 3 than there was from the fuse being pulled.

Furthermore, shaunv74 has a couple of mods, so isn't his dyno not surprising?

Anyhow laters!
Edgardo

Right - that's the difference. Pulling the room fuse created a decent-amount of 'white space' between the curves. Don't worry about the peak numbers.

Just the RB flywheel and redline trans fluid. Thebri had mazdaspeed intake and underdrive pulley. AAAnd CF splitter good for 40whp!

You are correct sir - it's the area under the curve that is important

Yeah. From a modification perspective mine should have been better. Oh well. I do rather fancy the sound of the AEM/Mazdaspeed air intake when the RPM's start to climb.

I'll get mine dyno'd again after I swap the exhaust out. Maybe then I'll be to 190whp..

Yup the area under the curve! I'll try to squint better when looking at the dyno graphcuz it still looks negligibly even between runs 3 & 5 as with 2 & 3.

Thanks again! Btw the Motivational Poster photoshopping look great!

Laters!
