Talking New, to me, Transmission in-bound

Found a transmission that doesn't grind and have agreed on a price. Tidying up details then it will be on it's way.

So no more babying the transmission on the drives. I'll be back to late-trailing-braking and using the gear I want, instead of the one that requires the least shifting.

I haven't driven a proper 8 or 9 10ths in soooooo long. I can hardly wait.

If I can find a new contract in the next couple of weeks, I'll order up a flywheel and clutch assembly too.

Nice work, it will take some time getting use to the new one because it won't have the idiosyncrasies of the old one but you will still treat it like the old one.

No, I'm keeping the gearing stock in the inbound unit. I need to get this syncro-less thing out of the way. I'll crack that one open, and if the hard parts are all okay, do the gearing, shift fork, lower shifter bushing, and maybe some retaining clip mods on that when I rebuild it.

If by idiosyncrasies you mean the requirement of double clutching every up and down shift, I hope you're right.

so your transmission has been going out for quite some time... where you out rallying the roads when the S4 saw you. That ames lake is a great road, as well as old union, good amount of houses though in some parts, gotta be careful Nice S4 huh?

Yes, very nice S4. I was on my way home from a HS reunion in Carnation. I grew up on those roads.

And yes, I've been dealing with Transmission issues for close to a year, and they've been REALLY bad for the last 6 months or so.

Just syncros, though, so not too difficult to compensate for.

Kris

Did you fix your clutch bracket?

ps: not saying it's the problem...just wondering.....the bracket mod made a huge difference in mine....It got rid of the mystery engagement point problem on the track for me

Dan, Clutch bracket has been reinforced for some time now. I had hoped it would take care of it, but it didn't. The improved pedal feel, and more precise clutch action is nice though.

Anijo, I've actually run that hill considerably faster. Unfortunately, when you can't reliably grab second, and all other gear changes take way too long, you have to compromise and feather some straights and lug a few corner exits. With a proper transmission, there's at least 5 seconds, and maybe even 10 left on that hill. Plus, I'm getting less and less happy with my tires, but that's another thread.
