Anywhere from 1 to 30. Actually, the last couple of meets have been just 2 cars (I've been to both) but I'd say the norm is 3-5. Thing's should pick up as the weather improves too. I simply budget every weekend for driving, that way, when a meet pops up, I've already got the time set aside. Of course, sometimes that means driving 500 miles to get to the meet, in order to go for a 50 mile run, but then I don't have much of a life.

Just a note. Those who don't have 2-way radios, pick one up. They're less than $30 (I got a set of 2 for like $45 at Target) and if everyone brings them, it makes communicating on the drive alot easier. It also helps break up the monotony when we're all trapped behind a slow-poke. Just a thought. When I first started doing these drives back in '02 we all carried 2-ways and it was blast.

This sounds like a 'great drive'??

man, that was a blast. sorry you got too lost. kris made it there. we waited cause i knew he would be there. then we waited for you.......... but anyways it was fun. 3 8's me, 1 vr-4. was little but a blast. the road was closed at one point so we made a new route. nothing funner than doing 110 in a 25. almost ran over 5 mothers with kids. but thats another story. actually ran one person off the road cause i passed him on a 20mph corner and scared the crap out of him. that was funny. wish i had the camera and cought the face as he went into the embankment. my son had a blast, except he wanted to do donuts. you all missed a great drive. too bad you missed it. see you next time.

Follow the link in my sig. I make special note of the primitive campgrounds and the need to keep an eye out for them. You've made your opinion of speeding very clear. As I've said previously, this is a topic requiring us to agree to disagree. I'm not seeking approval or attempting to change your opinion. I'm simply asking that we try to keep our statements of opinion civil.

(BTW, I'm well aware of my guilt in failing to do this previously.)

I LOVE to Speed. I love to drive hard. Kevin's followed me before - he might remember one particular on/off ramp (hwy 18 to hwy 167 N) where I pushed the car....It's all about CONTEXT. It's about having fun without taking OTHERS' lives into jeopardy. Laughing? about nearly hitting mothers and children? Delighting in running somebody off the road?

I'll write it again...CONTEXT.

I would say, then, we are probably in complete accord. Having driven with Allan a number of times, I fully expect his comment about the mothers and children was intended more as a sobering note of caution than wreckless abandon. Passing the BMW in a corner, well, that was just plain wreckless. Sorry, my dander's up with all the anti-go fast prosteletizing happing on both boards. I'm going to yield this soap-box for now.

It was a fun drive, close calls not withstanding.

well since i didn't have the oportunity to explain myself and i see it's gone to this board also. but here is my response. on the 7 board there are a few people that act like they are the great holly god of the world and condem others for actions they would not do. if all that was true, well i would have put it on this board and the nw street racing board also. on the 7 board most people know me and probably figured it was a joke knowing who it was projected for so i really wasn't worried about posting it. some things are ment for some boards and not others.

I couldn't agree more (see, there are things you and I can agree on )

This is why I don't do group drives; I did one, with the NSX club, and it was horrible, with people passing on corners, running people off the road, etc. There's always some yahoo at these things who thinks he's Mario Andretti, but without the skill and/or common sense, and I want to stay as far from them as possible.

Kettle - if you did just make the stories up, I apologize...however, as a reader who may not be 'in' on a particular inside joke, you can see where my concerns lay.

Spider - You just need to group-drive w/ the right people...

I get my high-performance kicks doing autocross and driving on the track. To me, the attraction of a group drive is to go somewhere beautiful, top down (oh, sorry, is this the RX-8 group? :D ), with other people who just enjoy driving their cars. Spirited driving is fun, but it all too easily goes over the line into something which makes me unwilling to take part. I've eyed that long drive you've posted on the local group, and I wonder (assuming it doesn't conflict with an autocross) how likely that is to stay under good control?

The primary focus of that drive is to do as you say...spirited, top-down driving. Most of the drivers are canadian...how wrecklass can they be, eh?

Most miata-drives I've been on go something like this:

Put-put-put along the straights....zoom-zoom thru the twisties....stop for food/gas/pics...etc. I can't remember a single drive - a couple involving some of the ppl participating in that drive - where I felt like a driver was out of control. Space between cars was good; they use Radios in the lead car to warn of anything shady/dangerous.

Naturally, I don't know all the participants, nor do I have a clear idea of how you define 'spirited'...

But you should probably bring your wife's RX8....cuz....I'd hate to have to park my car, and ride along in the S2k... :D
