JantzenRX-8's Prospective mods list

Revised as a "prospective list" and added my reasonings so it's not so much a "hey what should i do list?"

Yes, I bummed Nick's thread title but I have a similar request...

Old news:
So I finally got a job (laid off in late April) so I can finally justify dropping some cash on my car. I'm trying to keep it around 2k net (i.e. If I could sell an existing part as long as I ended up around 2k out of pocket I'd be fine with it.

I bought Advan RS in dark gunmetal in 18x9 +29 with ^^^ budget. Now to plan the rest...

On the Prospective list:
1)BHR mid-pipe and Cobb AP
  • Dondo's car sounds badass with the BHR mid-pipe
  • The mid-pipe will complete my bolt-on mods (unless i spring for a header) and I will get the most out of my AP
  • Once in a while my car idles low and the exhaust rattles no matter what i do and i want the AP to bump up the idle and do other magical things to my car
  • Flames!

2)Mazdaspeed front bumper
  • My stock bumper has rock chips galore
  • It's my favorite bumper by far
  • Good choice for track performance (more air flow, cone resistant etc)

3)An extremely good set of coilovers best for the track (not so much AutoX)
  • KW variant 3 or Ohlins DFV
  • I want something that's very soft and compliant with the road surfaces but handles great in the corners. I've come to realize stiff suspension is not great for the track.

4)Nitto NT-01 275/35/18 for the RPF1's
  • Duh

5)Status Ring GT leather racing seats w/ mounts etc
  • 4-point roll bar and harnesses would be shortly after this but don't really qualify as mods
  • I'll probably hold off on this for a while. I think i can manage one more season with a kinked neck and a sore back -- after all i'm only 25

Maybe:
1) Strut tower bars front and rear -- not convinced it does anything but look cool.
  • Autoexe 4-point and rear brace or Fluid's 6-point and rear cage

2) BDC Motorsports port & polish throttle body
  • I'm intrigued by this

3)BHR clutch and lightened flywheel
  • When mine go the way of the buffalo

4)DBA 5000xs brake rotors or be ballin and get the Racing Brake 2-piece rotors and aluminum calipers.
  • When mine go the way of the buffalo

Did I miss anything?

Is my addition out or does that lot add up to more than your $2000 budget ?

Nice list though

Well, I only want one of these items and some of them are more than 2k like the seats and the coilovers but im factoring in selling my stock seats or my current coilovers to keep the total around 2k.

Well... assuming you can get around $500-600 for the Tein Basics, your choices on coilovers is kind of all over the place. The "cheap but good" stuff like my Stances or the Tein Monoflexes easily within range but something like the KW Variant 3's is still pretty far outside. You might want to consider waiting for next season and getting a set of Koni shocks revalved by Fat Cat. Hopefully he'll be doing them for us by then and bang for your buck, they'll be the best out there.

Also, if you're really going to do R-comps on the RPF1's, you might want to move the seats higher up on the list. PM me about seats though, I just started shopping for them too... I'm fairly tempted to hold off on exhaust until BHR has their Midpipe w/ cat setup and MAYBE even wait around for their Cat-back.

KWV3's are only $1800 so if I sell my Tein Basics I'll only be $1200-1300 out of pocket. I'm not sure about this Koni shock ordeal... You crazy!!

If I went with coilovers I definately want something like the KWV3's but I'm not sure what all falls into this category of awesomeness.

I'm only doing r-comps if I buy a second set of wheels. If I dont go for the wheels now I'll just buy a really good set of street tires when these
kick the bucket in a couple of months.

I misunderstood your list, I thought you were buying all of these in that order.

I'd do the wheels and the BHR Midpipe + Cobb AP. Have you sold your stock wheels yet? If not then you could really get some pretty nice wheels with the remainder + money from the stock wheels.

Midpipe + AP and wheels would be more money than I want to spend at one time I could do wheels/tires by themselves or I could do the midpipe and AP and maybe another $800-900 worth of goodies.

I just don't want to spend more than 2 grand unless I'm going to re-coup some money from selling parts... Or if I find something mind-blowingly awesome that justifies spending a little more.

+1 for Mike. Tell that man what you want and he'll PM the black market and have you something in no time. Might cost you a kindey though...

Get those seats!

I'll look into these Holden wheels while I'm in Australia. If they're the right bolt pattern, I might really bring a set back.

I'm pretty sure i've narrowed it down to wheels, seats and coilovers in that order. If enough people keep overpricing their wheels or not responding to PM's (Evo folks) i may get fed up and drop some bones on the seats or coilovers.

So very true. Look great though. Should be a good offset as well.

Zack made up an equation for it:

Price = Brand * (Strength + weight)

It holds pretty true
