Question Good Body Shop?

Greetings, Northwesterners! This is my first post here on the NW forum, having recently moved to Washington from Massachusetts.

Sadly, even more recently, I managed to bash the side of my Shinka on a cement pillar in a parking garage, and now must find a body shop for the repair. Can anybody recommend a good body shop in the Bellevue, WA area? Almost as helpful, can anybody recommend any places *to stay away from*? I'm more than a little concerned about finding someone who will be able to get the Shinka black cherry right.

advTHANKSance,

Krankor

Wow, no love at all? Nobody on the east side has ever had to have any body work done?

Someone backed into the driver's door of our RX-8 in a parking lot (with her Expedition); it's in Bel-Kirk Auto Body in Kirkland now. If you remind me, I'll let you know how it went (it's on her insurance company's nickel). This is our first body work in ten years of living here.

Gosh, it's been YEARS, like 1988... The last time I had work done was at Taylor's Autobody in Renton, but I can't remember the quality. Sorry!

Thanks, I'll be interested to hear the result. When do you expect it back?

Yeah, I'd agree that info from 1988 is pretty stale. Thanks anyway!

Probably not until next week. It's just a crinkled door; they're putting on a new "skin," which is just the metal shell, and painting to match.

I can tell you who not to use. Aurora Collison Center Inc. The paint work done was attrocious.

Aurora Collison Center Inc. is part of the State Farm network and was recommended by the the service manager at University Mazda.

Ouch. Talk about guilt by association. Let that be a note to business types. Be sure your associations are quality.

Taylor's Autobody in Renton does a great job! My bro got in an accident with his civic and they did a great job w/ the paint. Recently I went to Auburn Autobody to get some body work on my 8 and they did a good job as well (fixed my fender, repaint the front and side fender, debadged the front and rear trunk).

That's good news. Kirkland would be a convenient place for me to go...

As with all body work, however, it's not cheap. It seems that the best way to really fix it is to get a new "skin" for the door, rather than filling it in with bondo. That plus the painting cost the other person's insurance company close to $1500.

Yeah, well close to $1500 is exactly what I'm looking to spend. Of which $1000 will come out of my own pocket. :-S

Resolution

So in the end, I called Lee Johnson to see if they had anybody they recommended, and they gave me a VERY strong endorsement of Evergreen Auto Rebuild, in Kirkland. So I decided to give it a shot. They were just terrific. He got it done *sooner* than promised, and it looks flawless; I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I'd certainly go back.

Very cool. I'll keep them in mind if something unfortunate happens to my car.

I just moved to Bellevue a few weeks ago, we should go cruising sometime

When I was younger we used to see some VERY exotic vehicles going to and from Evergreen. It's good to hear they're still as good as ever.

Anyone else know any good body shops that install and paint body kit pieces? I wanna repaint the front end again since the paint started to chip.

Ryan, I totally forgot about this one... Check out Riverside Collision in Kent - it's just off Central Ave on 228th before you get on 167 northbound.

8439 S. 228th, Kent

(The first time I borrowed my fiance's Dodge Ram 4x4, I got caught under the swingarm of a train track crossing and it came down and bounced a few times on top of the hood Needless to say, I did not want to go home that night ! After he calmed down, well really he just said "are you ok?" , he said no problem - Riverside is great. And they are (oh yeah, the truck was black ). I later took a visor for the same truck to be painted there and it also came out great)
