getting started

hi all. Another seattle 8 here.

Lately I've been really getting the urge to push my car in a safe and legal way. Since I have just about 0 idea what I'm doing and I enjoy fast cornering more than just going fast, it seems like AutoX is the place to start.

First, does anyone know when the next seattle area autoX is? I checked the nw scca website, but everything they listed had already happened. Where should I be looking?

Second, any recommendations for books/websites I should check out to learn the basics of racing? I'm looking for real n00b, "fast driving 101" type stuff. I know nothing beats time on a track with an instructor, but money and time are a bit limited, and I'd like to be able to learn something during the slow periods at work

There's the Western Washington Sports Car Council series held at the Boeing Everett site. See http://www.wwscc.org/ for details. The schedule page includes the 2006 NorthWest Region SCCA events as well. They also have a "getting started" page.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link! It looks like the next event is actually the East/West Challenge in Packwood, on 4/22? Any reason not to show up to this one as my first ever event? The website doesn't have a lot of per-event details.
