out of curiosity, why SR20? my friends have 240sx (2 s13 and 1 S14) with SR20 black tops in them, and to be honest, their engine puts out about the same hp as ours, except ours win cus we have 4k more rpm....?

well i did, the person that i was dealing with had all of that lined up with sources of his own. he has since dropped off the face of the earth with parts i own and parts that i need to complete the build like the parts i mentioned. now all of these parts that i originally didnt think i was going to have to worry about are what is holding me back from finishing. to sum it up it was just a shitty business deal that has put me in a real bind. and as for why did i chosse and sr20, base power may be close to the renny but as far as ease of working on it availible parts and power potential the sr wins in my opinion.

i seriously dont get why rpm length is so important.

9k rpm or 6k rpm. really, how does it make a difference?

to be honest, I have alot of friends in SR20 S13 and S14s

but why put 1 in an rx8? I can understand a 2JZ, but SR20 is hardly worthy........I think if you're gonna do it

RB26? VQ3.5? 2JZ?

a boosted sr20 > 13b. and he had a spare sr20 laying around. he didnt have a spare rb26 or anything else.

powerband: i dont really think so. the rx8 has such short gears im sure we are in any gear just about the same as a camaro with longer gears and a shorter rpm range.
airflow: uh, ok. 400hp is 400hp. it seems the lsX get plenty of air flow.
badassnes: horsepower is badass.

personally, i feel all this hype on a 9k redline is just that. marketing hype. sure its "cool", but it'd be even "cooler" if it had 300hp when you hit 9k rpm.

I Went The Sr20 Over The Rb And 2jz Because The Sr Fits Way Way Better And Dosent Weigh 2 Million Pounds. My Front End Is Actually Lighter Now To The Point Where The Suspension Sits 1 3\4" Higher Than Stock. I Have Said It Before I Am Not Trying To Build A Dyno Queen, I Am Trying To Keep This Car As Balanced And Light As Possible And Have Power To Spare. Plus Im Really Interested To See How The 5 Speed Gearing In The Nissan Tranny Is Going To Mesh With The High Srtrung Rear End In The 9.

I don't really know much about gearing... too much math for me... but what are possible outcomes with combining the two?

as for the gearing im a lil fuzzy on that myself but im thinking its gonna be fun. im going from a close ratio six speed to a standard drawn out 5 speed with a high gear in the back. and i never said that the sr was better than a 13 b just that the 13b wasnt for me in my car.

I am no way dissing you putting in an SR20 in your car, as I don't diss people for doing creative things to their cars at all mate

I was just curious as to "why" though so that I may steal your ideas in the future

but heh, if you had 1 lying around, it would be a cool swap, but I'd actually want to buy that SR20 off you since I have an S14 with a KA24 still, I need a swap yo!

if you turbo the 8, your max hp is not at 9k anymore. more like 7.5k, and i've been wondering about this..

when drag racing, do you go past your max hp to shift still at 9.3k, with horsepower and acceleration greatly reduced, or do you shift just after your horsepower peak. so you stay accelerating in your powerband?

That's not a simple question to answer. Generally you're better off staying the steeper gear for as long as you can, because the torque you're putting to the ground will be much greater (even though you're past the engine's maximum output) than if you up-shift.

In a NA 8 it is most definitely better to go past the torque peak of the engine all the way to redline, because while the output at 9k RPM is significantly less than at 6.5k, it is still adequate enough to produce more torque at the wheels in the lower gear.

Anyhow, this is a bit off topic Keep us updated on your progress cmr333.

well its actually my daily driver. thats why im trying my best to make everything durable and reliable first and formost. to be honest though as far as drifting racing and what not i would like to try a lil bit of all. there are not any drift events in fl. that i know of but if i can find one im down (sideways is my fav thing ever) auto-x is definatly somthing i would like to try as well as road racing. i wont be doing much dragging unless i get a free track day or somthing. all and all i just want to have fun with it and go fast.

fail, it depends on the turbo, what you are talking about is the MM/BHR turbo
the Mazsport will run you to red line
my friend's SR20 Red Top gets owned after 5.5k rpm (when his turbo doesn't work anymore) however, he still uses the T25, we bought a T28, but haven't installed it yet

thats why you have big powerband Kersh.........look at the graph of some of the turbo kits, if I shift @ 9k rpm with a mazsport, I will be in the pwoer band...............forever

sorry no, im talking about the mazsport turbo. it peaks at 7.5k and its downhill after that. the least peaky ones are the pettit sc and the mm turbo. neither are graphed to 9.5k.
