With the costs of such a swap, I'd go rew.
Interesting idea, not my style

...and why is monchie in every single thread with some random vague response?
If the question is yes or no, monchie is like; "maybe"

I considered this engine for a long time for my classic build.
Honduh's better engine but not better than a 13b with a huge hairdryer.

You all realize you make him the center of attention in threads by making comments about him and or responding to his comments?

I don't know what to think about this swap . The engine is so similar in performance it is kinda like saying " I give up on the rotary- it's crap, but i want the same feel you get from a high revving engine".

Sorry, but the Fueleconomy.gov ratings give the 04 s2k about the same as the rx-8. if i'm gonna swap in a 4cyl.. why not a 30-35mpg getting 1.5-1.7 civic engine? even if you do wind up with half as much hp. AND if you're going for hp... why not a Ls1, or turbo LS1 for that matter.... Because, people are looking for the "neat" factor, or" it's not been done before."

lets make a hybrid rx-8. like tomorrow. wankle and DC. Together, forever.

Sure there are other swaps, but WRT weight:

Renesis - 300# dressed
F20C - 325# dressed
LS1 - 500# dressed

an F20C is relatively small too

25.5" H x 20" L (with pulley) x 14.5" W (at the bell housing end)

MM summed it up well, installing a direct side mount GTX3076R on an F20C should be possible in the RX8 chassis @ 575 whp reliably

FWIW, those weights ALL seem a tad high, but my basis for that is just having huffed them around the shop manually.

The pulley to bell housing length was also about an inch less on the F20C that is sitting here. Height was less as well, so we might not be measuring from the same spots.

MM - are you planning to go with the side mount GTX3076R turbo
what numbers could you expect? ~550 - 600ish
lastly are you planning to use the S2000 ECU or a stand-alone? id bet on the stand-alone considering the source

Hey, I know the owner of that S2000 Miata. His name is Grant..I use to drive with him. He's had many fun toys over the years. (Supra, ACR Viper, SRT8 Magnum, Miata, etc)

I'm using a GT3076 (not a GTX) on a divided manifold (that I designed myself).
I am limited by class to 330 HP, but not limited on torque, so I will be tailoring the boost curve to that.

RX-8 PCM for everything but the fuel and spark, which will be AEM.

.
that's no fun.
although I'm sure there will be 'track settings' (map, BC, etc) and non-track settings.

That is a LOT of fun. 380 ft/lb of torque and 330 HP in an RX-8 will DESTROY just about ANYTHING one might come across.

Well, I will wring it out, but it kinda needs to be set to what I am gonna compete with so I don't get challenged if I am suddenly much faster.

I worded that incorrectly.
I should have put, that's not as much fun as it COULD be.
But yea, any 300+ hp RX-8 can be a TON of fun, I can only imagine that kinnda torque.

now hurry up with that swap, I wanna throw this beast on SR's dyno.

on second thought, I wanna see THIS on the dyno.

hmm....so say hypothetically, if someone else did do this engine swap...you SHOULD technically be able to customize a tune for said individual/engine, correct?

hmm i would have thought the PCM side of things would be very difficult to rig up using the RX-8s...but then again we have to consider the source

this build is getting more and more tempting

What about 2.2L V-tec swap (F22C1)- much better power band - more usable power. Much better option unless you just want high redline.

A local guy swaped 2.2 in to his s2000 (that used to have 2.0) - much better low end power and higher top end with same boltons.
230whp with intake, exhaust, headers - no tune. Same mods on 2.0 gave him 215whp
