S2000 engine swap

S2000 engine swap
I saw the idea of a S2000 F20C engine swap on another forum. Has anyone ever seen this done on an RX-8? I understand the engine should bolt up to our transmission and the ECU from the S2k will have to be used. Its a very interesting concept that i may be inclinded to tackle one day down the road.
here is a thread of the swap done on a miata, but i couldn't find anything on this engine swap in an 8

please be gentle...i realize this is blasphemy...a V-tech in an 8
flame suit on
ideas, thoughts, opinions?

I agree with red.
However, it's a better choice than a lot of the other "what about this engine" threads. It has potential and is already small and light weight. If it lines up as said, it would keep the cost of the swap down.
Are you gonna keep the auto-tragic slvr?

Dear mods,
With a heavy heart, i must inform you that member slvrstreak has challenged me to an illegal street race. Please be easy on him, but if you feel that a permaban is just, then so be it.

I am not a huge fan of putting a piston motor in a RX8, but atleast the idea is to stay with a small high reving motor. If you going to do it, make it a stroked 2.4L f20c http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/06...ild/index.html
I didnt see any actual dyno numbers, but probably near 300HP NA without anything crazy.

one of the main sweet things about such a swap is that it bolts up to our trans. Also the exhaust is on the correct side and the engine rotates in the correct way for this swap.
The s2000 engine is the ONLY production engine that comes with forged internals--so adding a little boost is no strain on the major components.
Its a good little engine--the v tec can be easily tuned out and in na form with the right cams etc close to 300 whp can be obtained with good driveability.
Is it perfect----nope.
This engine sounds good coming down the track-- i do know that.
Tail of the Dragon? LET ME KNOW

well i figured somebody might have a build already but i guess not
very promising build though since its matches up so well i thought somebody would at least have somemore info on it...the miata swap was informative though
if you mean Jim...yes his car is a beast on track
anytime you get ready! we all need to make a trip up that way
im pretty cocky on the Dragon but, even i dont know if i want any of your SC 8 :P

if youre gonna go through all the time, trouble, and money of an engive swap, why pick an engine that puts down almost identical numbers? personally id go with a carbed ford 302 if i were to do a swap on either one of my cars.

At the same time forged internals are a bonus and if you have money left over after the swap the power potential for this engine, hate to say it, is quite a bit greater than the MSP. I've heard some good things about converting to i-Vtac
One of my good friends has an AP1 and the thing sounds pretty deadly but at the same time, his NA with bolt ons is nowhere near the thrill of my FI renny. (go figure.)

because size and weight are very similiarl to the Reni
because it bolts right up to the transmission
because the motor has excellent internals and can EASILY handle 400whp with a small turbo
because AEM makes an engine management system that is quite good
because parts are readily available
because the motor has proven itself throughout the years
should I continue?
honestly, if you're going to do a piston motor swap (which personally I'm not a fan of) this is actually a very good choice for a motor.

My first 4 cylinder choice would be an SR20 with a VE head swap (mazworx makes a kit to put the head on the RWD engines). I have the FWD DET in my Sentra and it is about retarded with around 350fwhp. The F series motor sounds VERY nice when wrapped out though.

because your starting points are almost the same it makes for a closer comparison

It seems to be a feasible option. My appeal to my RX-8 is the fact that it is RWD, has rear seats, and handles phenomenally. As far as the engine, I have nothing but complaints about the RENESIS...

all i was saying is if i was going to rip the heart out of my car id at least replace it with some *****. not another torqueless puny engine. while the swap may be easier, its still going to cost a lot. why not boost the renny and leave the money saved aside for a rebuild. and many of your arguments can be applied to the ford motor as well, reliable, parts etc. it wont bolt up. but i wouldnt want to use our tans with a v8 anyway. just saying, it may be practical, but more trouble than its worth.
and brandon, let me know when you get jedi's **** out of your mouth and come up with your own argument lol
