I kinda don't get why traction control doesn't work. Its not a system really dependent on the engine minus the reducing of throttle.

traction control is looking for a throttle signal input and feed back from the factory ecu. because we arent using the mazda computer or the factory throttle signal it turns it off until it sees those signals.

The ls2 doesn't have a throttle position sensor to make traction control happy?

Awesome progress!

So, is this going to be a regularly offered BH package? Are you getting into the RX8 conversion business or is this a one time thing?

Just for kicks, mind giving us the weight at each corner?

Basically the same weight as a RX8 GT. My 04 GT w/spare weighs 3070 lbs.

Nice, glad to see the dash functioning and I'm glad to see one of these finished for once. Does the ABS work properly?

Just for comparison sake here are my numbers pre turbo. 2004 GT w/spare tire and 3/4 tank of gas. Basically the LSx swap adds 30-32 lbs to the front of the car. Add in my turbo kit and these number are even much closer.

Left Front-Right Rear: 1536lbs
Right Front-Left Rear: 1537lbs
Left Front: 794lbs
Right Front: 795lbs
Left Rear: 742lbs
Right Rear: 742lbs
Total Weight: 3073lbs

Blackbriar2189, what trim level is your car? It would be great to know so we can better determine how much weight gain their is with the swap. I believe the most stripped down basic model comes in 28xx lbs. And the bloated GT like mine weighs in at 3100 lbs.

It has leather and NAV so it's a GT. Noob.

doh! haha I just checked the first post to see if he listed the trim level.

So this confirms swapping a LSx is basically the same as adding a turbo.

That is actually much better than I expected tbh, did you end up keeping most of the oem functions? I am really impressed if the LSx series are really as light as a rotary w/ aluminum housing. When I checked norotors it was sounding like they were a bit heavier, but here it didn't seem to make a difference. Don't get me wrong, I am not calling anyone out, just scratching my head here.

That's pretty close to what I figures it would be. I remember reading a long time ago about the guy in Iceland that did it all himself with an LS2 from a GTO and I don't remember his curb weight but I believe his car came in around 53/47 f/r weight distribution.
Also, my buddy built a 2001 LS1 Miata and he had his corner weighted and it came in at 2700 lbs with 51/49 f/r distribution, so I figured and RX8 would be somewhat similar. His car stock was approx. 2400 lbs, he said the majority of the weight is in the T56 transmission but luckily most of that weight is in the lower center of the car.

Congrats on following through. I'd love to see the look on other drivers faces when they hear that LS2 in traffic. (Those that know the sound doesn't match the body, that is.) If you don't mind sharing costs I would like to see a breakdown of how much it takes to make this happen and where it all goes.

I've just read your entire thread, well done! I hope you enjoy it and the sound is very cool. Almost enough crow eaten by the early nay Sayers too.
It's probably too tough to do from here AND in right hand drive but it would be fun to have one of each!!!!

This was one of my hardest v8 swaps we have done to date. I wont post up a bill that the client paid to keep it confidential for the customers sake. Plus there are so many different options and features that can add or take away from the price of the swap. the best thing we do is have a meeting (conference call or sit down) to discuss the direction of the car and what the goals hp wise are. our swaps are tailored to the clients to make sure they get exactly what they want and not a cookie cutter job.
