It's an "entry-level" hi-fi amplifier hand-built in the USA by yours truly. It's a push-pull output stage using EL-84 tubes. They can sound quite nice and are easy to drive. The PSU contains both a 250khz switching buck regulator for DC filament supply and a push-pull unregulated converter for the high voltage. Chassis is only (roughly) 9.5x6.5x2.5" containing both channels. Output is about 12w/ch. There's a 50w/ch version coming that will likely use KT88s. I have another switching transformer on the way for that project. Two supplies will be required and run closer to 450v.

Can't wait to see the final tube amp product, let alone hear it!

Haha. I'm having issues with my daily driver and the Rodeo popped up locally and was pretty clean for the price. Had to nab it.

This is now the 3rd Isuzu engine I've built and my first 3.5L direct injected version of it. Having no prior experience with Isuzu' and no standing knowledge of the engine, I'm still glad I chose it. It's so easy to work on with no quirky assembly methods other then the timing marks being a little awkward the first time it's done. It's really like the 5hp Briggs and Stratton of the v6 world.

I need to do valves on this one and got a chance to tear down the head. This 3.5 has shim-less buckets. Know what that's good for? High rpm. The valves don't have undercut stems and are nitride coated. Not bad Isuzu, not bad.

The rods in this engine are twigs compared to the 3.2L. This engine has 10.1:1 CR and rated for 250hp. If they managed that on these little rods, I'm more confident about the 3.2L rods holding some boost.

3.2L on the bottom.

Originally? My engine swap. Then it was the trolls vs. Isuzu with yours truly as defense. Now I'm just babbling about Isuzu engines.

My first glimpse into one of the v6 heads. Those are some damn big intake valves. Consider the bore is a massive 93.4mm. The valves are about 1-3/8 in diameter.

Kickerfox...

I am about to tell you that i've reading your posts since day one.....you motivated me to buy a whole car for this one engine.
And i am no RX8 owner (my buddy has a single turbo RX7 FD3S though...gotta love the turbo 13B sound @8000rpm)

I knew about the 6VD1 engine since always though (Opel fan who lives in Greece), and its donor car which is the Opel Frontera B V6.

Since i've been an OPEL & DTM fan...the only car that i can fit this one engine in, is the Opel Calibra 4x4 chassis.

Well, i got the car...and found the engine...a 6VD1-W out of a 2003 V6 Frontera.
The engine though is seized up :/
And i need tons of work to turn the engine longitudinal instead of transversely that comes from stock on the Calibras..

Thanks a ton for the inspiration..and i will try to send you a pic or 2 if you want.

So you're mounting a 6VD1 transverse in an AWD Calibra? Very nice. Best of luck on your project. I hope you find information that will assist you.

Thanks!

Yes you got it right.
Calibra turbo came from the factory with a rather unreliable 4wd system, and pretty expensive to maintain.
It can't hold much power as well and the car isn't exactly feather weight (3000+ pounds)

This way i will run it RWD, with a lightweight engine and set-up and i will hopefully try to keep it under 2500pounds.
Front sub-frame is out for the mounts to be made and then i will need to chop the floor for the trans tunnel.
Rear axle is all there though, it is almost the same as Opel Omega B's axle (Cadillac Catera to you)

Can't wait to see yours done

If it's RWD you're mounting the engine longitudinally. Like in the RX8.

I will convert the floorpan of the car to accept longitudinally mounted engine
This way it will be Rwd, as it should have been.

Well holy f---! A '97 Rodeo FINALLY showed up at the yard. Been waiting forever for someone to get one. Had to get another companion flange because I goofed and machined too much off of mine.

Now I can finally bolt the driveline to the mock-up engine and get the engine mounts welded in. Soon as it warms up anyways. Damn weather.

In the mean time I'm having fun beating on the Rodeo.

Started diving into the fuel system today. There's two venturis. One for drawing fuel from the right half of the tank and one to draw fuel from the left half. What a pain.

Mock up engine torn down. Starting engine mounts soon. I think im going to use the Isuzu OEM rubber mounts rather then the poly ones I made.

Started engine wiring harness. All the connectors are labeled and ready to be spliced into whatever loom I come up with. Need the engine in the car to see where to run the wiring loom but it'll probably come off the back of the passenger head and ran over the passenger fender.

Waiting on bulkhead fitting for fuel system.

I just got the last fitting for my fuel system today. I wan't to run the new feed line and maybe relocate the OEM lines before I start the engine mounts. Just concerned about the exhaust being close to them. A heat shield may be all that is needed.

AC lines clear the engine with a little tweaking. I just can't live without AC. That large Isuzu compressor may be a little overkill. Perfect!

The strut bar doesn't clear my intake. Not sure what to do about it yet. Probably make a V shaped replacement that attaches to the firewall.

Know what's funny? It took less research to figure out what parts will bolt together to make my entire drivetrain fit the car then it's taking to put a fuel filter on it. Is it really that uncommon to use off-the-shelf brake line as fuel line? There isn't an OEM filter on the planet with a 3/8 female inverted flare connection.

Ok... So I'll use my billet filter with the AN -8 ORB ports. Well, I can't find a 3/8 female inverted flare to ORB -8 adapter. It's looking like I need to put a 3/8 female inverted flare to AN -6 on the line then a short length of hose with AN -6 ends to an AN -6 to ORB -8 to my filter. So instead of one place to leak there are now 6 places that can leak. -.-"
