"Were not going to publish the actual figure - it will cause too many arguements."

Well maybe that says enough.

Bingo? http://www.performancedesign.com.au/...DynoMetric.pdf

I'd like to compare the outputs of both engines to one another. Supermarine uses an engine dyno for their results so I'll compare that to Hymee's engine dyno results. This is how I plan to do it. I'm going to mark the points where torque is X% of the engine's rated output at both low and high RPM. This will give me some sort of average within, what I would consider, a usable area of operation. I'll then calculate the horsepower at 500rpm intervals and divide that by the number of intervals between the two points. This will give me an average horsepower output across both engines "usable range".

What is fair for an X value? 50%? 75%?

I'll say this for you... In the real world this is all meaningless due to the number of other variables (like transmission ratios) but it's at least some form of comparison and like I said, I have fun doing it. It could very well be that the Renesis's torque is flat enough over such a wide range at higher RPM that the average horsepower is higher then the v6. This is the only method I can think of that has any form of calculated fairness.

Facts about the swap that can not be argued.
-Better gas mileage
-Less oil consumption
-Lower maintenance costs*
-Lower replacement part costs*
-Quiter exhaust
-Minimal change in vehicle handling
-Fewer shifts
-Excessive wear to rear tires

*excluding damage caused by excessive torque through rear drivetrain and suspension components.

Tune up would be $18 not $200 and a fuel filter will be a 5min job. Things like that.

That's a lot of tune ups to make it economical.

I'm not trying to justify the cost of a swap but I'll probably make more off the parts I'm removing then I'll be spending on the parts I'm putting in.

14 pages and no engine swapping. I'm disappointed.

Talk may be cheap but planning is priceless. One day you may possess the skills to take on a project of your own. When that day comes, you'll understand the value in planing. If one just slaps a bunch of junk together, although it may function, what will they have? A bunch of junk.

If your slap a bunch of junk together, all you have is a bunch of junk slapped together.
Prior planning or not.

I understand the value of planning already. My car is actually built, works and has a reliable renesis in it. How's that for planning?

Isn't that what I just stated?

Planning with success? Win!

Here's the plot of the 13bmsp NA off the crankshaft taken from superflow's results. www.superflow.com

EDIT - Updated with torque curve added. Look about right?

basically speaking--yes. The only thing I would know about this that may be of a little benefit is Hymlee tested the engine with a stand alone ecu--no maf or intake. The numbers are on the high side but believeable.

Ah so it wasn't a legit baseline run. That sucks. Oh well, close enough.

Why is this the "official" thread? where's the "unofficial" swap thread? maybe he's swapping a 13B-REW over there?

I started a thread just talking about the idea and it got trolled. So I started another to focus on facts and keep track of my steps and it got trolled as well. I wouldn't expect to see much more about it on this forum. The Youtube level etiquette around here makes it difficult to keep things organized.

You started a thread that was an engine swap by title and a shoot the crap by content. The youtube level etiquette you speak of is very similar to what you see when there is a youtube video claiming to be something cool (like boobies) and turns out to be something uncool (like a fat guy talking about boobies with no actual boobies). I have my own thread, it also goes strongly against the grain, but it's not 15 pages long filled with crap. The way I keep it on topic is by not arguing and only posting when I actually have something to update. People want to see progress not words, and arguing about things with no physical proof isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

Nothing 'official' has happened yet, words are great and all, but you haven't even started.
We've all seen our fair share of this sort of thing, never gets finished.
You aren't off to a grand start, you keep feeding the trolls and have no action.

Ah I see so you want me to entertain you with only information you think is "cool". This is an engine swap. From the beginning to the end, that's what it is. If your only interested in the final 10% of the project, then wait for it and refrain from commenting. If you don't like this movie, leave the theater.

This isn't an engine swap. This is a thread that belongs in the "Discussion" section until the discussion is ready for an actual swap. Conjecture, contradiction, and graphs will work better there.

But you haven't done any swapping. Just talking. For it to qualify as a 'swap' thread you actually have to work.

I could have started a thread when I started thinking about installing a turbo, but what would be the point?

It doesn't mean anything until it's done, it's just talk.

You chatty Cathy you.

Hey bose. I maybe might kinda be considering a swap or a turbo a few years from now. Wanna hear about it? I have graphs.

Graphs make my pant tight. You should start a new thread.
