And up to now it's fair to say that there is absolutely 0 planning being done. Just a bunch of thoughts and (wrong) theories but nothing that will actually help that engine fit in the rx8.

They should put taxes on wasted web space.. people would stop posting this kind of nonsense.
I think you would be taxed now, as your statement is of information value....hawwww

No plan = no fit. Even a measurement is a step in a plan. It's now it's fair to say that there is absolutely zero intelligence coming from you. Here have another.

Well it's been fun guys. I'll probably check back from time to time and let you know how my planing is going.

X7 - let me know what you decide to do.

All the measuring and planning in the world isn't going to make that engine fit. Either it does or it doesn't. Unless you have a lot of graphs. Graphs make everything better.

Do you hear yourself before you speak? Measuring first will determine if it will fit. If the engine bay is 20" wide and the engine is 24" wide, it doesn't fit. If the engine bay is 24" wide and the engine is 20" wide, it'll fit. How do you do engines swaps? Spend hours removing your current engine then see if the replacement fits? Foolish. You were probably the kid who tried running through the front door carrying a broomstick sideways, twice.

As I've started, the graphs are just for fun.

9krpmrx8 - wow that almost looks like a friend of mines wife. spooky.

How many times are you gonna measure and tell us about it? These type of projects always come down to a series of small issues that don't arise until it is sitting in the bay. And again.......You haven't actually tried to swap anything. You have talked about it for a month, though, and asked for others to do your homework for you. This is a lounge thread at best.

Sorry, I forgot about the part where you were proclaiming yourself as the savior of this community because of this simple swap you have devised.

Sorry, forgot again about that being contradicted when you said you would have to fabricate many of the parts.

I don't know if you are trolling or doing this research makes you feel better about yourself or maybe you are actually serious. Either way this thread is funny as hell.

The only thing I asked the forum for was a dyno chart and some help with excel.

Where do you get the idea I'm proclaiming myself as the savior of this community? This is just a project I'm doing but the forum insists on burning me at the stake for it. If your not interested, why not just stop reading? Why spam the thread with negitivity? What purpose does that serve other then making it hard for people that may be interested?

Fact is, I'm doing the swap and posting as much information as I can for those who may be interested in a cheap engine swap. Maybe there are others looking for options. Maybe some of the facts I post would help guide someone else's project. The transmission plots alone would be priceless to someone planing on using a W or R series. They can see how it will perform before making the mistake of buying a trans with a ridiculously incompatible ratios.

Please save us from ourselves with your cheap engine swap where you engineer and fabricate everything except the actual engine block and transmission.

Dude--good luck with your project.
I would love to see a v/6 swap into this chassis.
Seems like some homebuilt airplanes are using this engine--thats a very good sign.

Depends on what his version of cheap is, my boss bought a Testarossa for $76k because it was cheap.

I doubt he's going to do it for anywhere near the price he's anticipating.

This engine probably performs better in an airplane, sure didnt work to good for Isuzu on land otherwise they may still be around.

They still are around, dunno about this POS engine but they are building diesel trucks (from what I hear, the latest "DMAX" is quite good)

I've been turning wrenches for 30 years and one of the most resourceful people you'll ever know. Don't underestimate. To me, "cheap" is significantly less then what one would expect to pay.

The Isuzu v6 was used for for over ten years in hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Holden may still be using it. You'd have to ask the Australians.

Like the GM 60º 2.8 v6. Used in millions of cars and trucks for over a decade, and is widely known as one of the shittiest engines GM has ever produced.

You guys forget that in new zealand tgere are more rotary engines in junkyards there then anywhere else...or b16 engines are everywhere as well. Just because you know of no one that does want them doesnt mean they dont exist or have a need..im starting to think a lot of rx8 guys are seriously up there own *** when it comes to thinking out the box.

To successfully think outside the box you have to know what's in the box first... AND be smart enough to think inside of a bigger box that encloses the one you're facing.

This thread is not the case.

fastlane did the bmw swap that the guy discarded because of weight gains... and commented on the lack of actual weight gains once all the useless ancillaries are removed. Yet he was ignored.
Most of us pointed out better engine solutions and they were discredited with speculation vs facts.

All the planning in the world won't let you finish a build... once you're set on the engine and have all the measurments (which he had) it's time to take the hacksaw out and make things fit.

Well, yes. Car is too new for people to accept doing dumb crap that might ruin it. Remember a lot of people are still in their warranty period, to them an engine mod that doesn't make the car drastically better in at least one regard is pointless.

All op has done is put himself in another box.

Understood on the new and under warfebty. I wouldnt do anything wild enough mainly because of funds but after next year its out of warrenty so when i joined i expected much more recollection of more serious mod. The eclipse 3g isnt that old and still i see awd conversions evo swaps free tuning interface the works. I also understand its older computer wise but they had to work with technology at that time im sure thefes some computer savy fellows here to have some spare time to research. The rx8 needs more respect when i refere my buddies to it from many members here there mind has changed a lot.
But id like to show them a bit more then one fellows rb26 swap that i dont see running or anything or, the Or 2jz that make it handle like butt .but with this swap i see possible 350z swaps. Could be nice where this strange swap can take us..

I ramble a lot ._.

you're comparing swaps available for a car with a shared platform and decades old technology with a car that is a one off platform and engine that shares nothing with previous generations other than the fact that it's a rotary.

350z swap? again, why?

I don't think you're really seeing what Harlan is saying. Swaps aren't worth it unless they make the car dramatically better in some shape or form. A shitty isuzu engine is not going to make the car dramatically better in any aspect. If all he gets is 40 ft/lbs of torque on the low end that falls flat on it's face after half way through the rpm range, he isn't getting much gain at all for the time or price involved unless it takes $10 minutes and is free. If he magically builds an engine out of it that puts down 300+ whp reliably, with a nice looking power band, and can get it in the car and running properly with all drivable and legal necessities for less than $7k, then we'll all eat our words and worship him. Until that happens, it's not worth the time or effort.

x7rotor: you sound like the kind of guy that does a lot of keyboard racing and drools over non-functional show cars with dreams of a high dollar JDM swap into your low dollar car that can put down super awesome peak numbers at the dyno day that you trailer it to.

OP seems like a shady-tree mechanic that has eyes bigger than his mouth and thinks he can do anything because he has some fab equipment at his disposal. He's now fixated on an engine just because people knocked it, and will go to any length (besides actually buying the thing and building it) to defend his position. He calls this tactic planning.

The best swap idea in this thread has already been mentioned, is almost complete and will be badass. Too bad the OP dismissed it and hasn't taken a word of advice from the poster. If i still had an RX8 i'd be tempted to go that route. Instead i'm just going to buy the car it came out of and call it a day.

Didnt know i called my car high dollar jdm zomg cake kinda car. And thatz where i stand with my previous statement before you know nothing of my work and you assume something else. If you say tomato i say melon you assume the worst of that one statement. Thus your head is far up north of the southern tunnel. Come out before you begin to choke. I even stated before this swap isnt the greatesr idea and could lead to much more later down the road( btw im more into european Cars so i dont see into making it lhd super imported fat tire rack on roof jdm godzillaness
