Time will tell. It sure is a wide engine--i guess most dohc engines are--but supposedly it will fit.

Hang in there. My car is in limp mode as of this morning. First time I've been late to work because of a car. It was fun while it lasted. This weekend I have to take a trip to Michigan and I'm in the middle of negotiations to franchise the shop so I have a lot on my plate at the moment. I'll start the tear down early in Febuary and try to sell off as much as I can quickly to make room for the swap.

People manage to get 90deg v8s in these cars. The v6 has larger heads but it's a 75deg block. The only fitment issue I foresee is the intake. If the Isuzu one fits I'll use it but it's unlikely. The Isuzu is only about ~24" wide and it's widest point is at the tops of the heads which will be above the framerails in the 8's engine bay.

I think it's a badass swap with a lot of potential. Sadly we don't have the Euro CSL S54 here in the states and the 333hp version of the S54 is usually between $5k and $7k used. For that money over here you can get a low mileage LS6 with a t56 attached.

This is the funniest thread in a while, it's even better that it has spawned so many other hilarious threads. I say that kickerfox has contributed to the community not in knowledge but in entertainment that will make us laugh for months to come :-D

Have you looked up the legality of swapping in an engine that is older the production date of the car? In my state (Connecticut) that is a no-no and will fail inspection.

Did you ever look into the 3.8 S2 supercharged Pontiac engine? Its not a lot to brag about but I personally would rather have that over an Isuzu engine. If given the choice.

They just plug in the diag connector. If emission status is green, you pass. Isuzu did make the 6VE1 in '04 (same as my car) but it was GDI and the the pump runs off the back of the head. That would require me to move the engine forward and gains are minimal.

Why? I have yet to hear the explanation. If you guys have a legitimate reason this engine sucks, I'm waiting to hear it. If it said Nissan on it would that be ok? Maybe Honda? GM? Audi? BMW? Do tell.

Old technology. Plus I'm trying to stay away from 4-bangers. Have you ever driven a 6-cylinder (inline) like a BMW or Toyota or even a VR6 VW? There's something about the low-end torque and sound of a v6 that I think will suit this car well.

Here's a Q for you guys. A 600hp v8 vs. a 600hp Honda B18. Who wins the 1/4mi? What variable is most important in determining the answer besides weight and driver skills? Assume those are equal.

I've failed to mention my thoughts on the V6 4WD Isuzu Trooper I owned for 6 years... Actually I used it as a low dollar trade-in for my 8.

If the constant oil seepage doesn't kill you, the loose *** valves and lifters (read clank clank clank clank clank) will.

The V8 car wins. No boost lag, broader power band. Wider rear tires will allow it to hook. While the Front wheel drive, poorly geared car will be torque steering all over the place on its skinny tires.

I helped build the engine in my buddies Integra. Guy has 150+ peak rwHP on me...but I always walk him. Car would take a dedicated conversion to a drag car to become "fast". Meanwhile I'll still be driving my car to the track and running easy mid 11s on street tires, without losing street manners or the ability to tear it up on the autocross track.

This is part of what makes a conversion attractive on the Rx8. It is a rear wheel drive, well balanced sports car. Not an econo car trying to be something its not. But it only works if you put a real powerplant in it.....

Where was the leak? It's sealed like any other engine so maybe Isuzu used poor sealant or gaskets? How many miles were on your Trooper? Maybe the lifters were due for adjusting.

Yuk. I agree. Looks like a 1uz? Crammed into? That's not an RX8 is it? The fuse box looks familiar. I'm going to try to make things look as "OEM" as I can. The average Joe won't know it's a swap unless they happen to know the car.

Previous car sebring with mivec 3.8 installed v6 traded it for the rx8 :p it siunded great with the custom 3 inch exhaust and aem intake but doesnt rev as high and make as much high ens power as the rotory.

I'm expecting 7000rpm out of the Isuzu motor. I read it's fuel cut is 7200rpm but I'm sure it's torque is falling on it's *** by then.

What do you think your 3.8 in front of a 5 speed in the 8 would feel like?

Honestly id expect a better o.60 time but not much higher then how the 8 will but stop and go traffic wasnt so great for mileage but highway mileage is much higher
I did a 5 speed swap and the overall acceleration may feel different on rwd

That fuel cut sounds about right the mivec stopped making power around 6,700 but prolong near 7,500 And the crank bearing will eventually spin

Alot of the keyboard mechanics have no clue.. i applaud you, you're on the right track, esp with the research you're doing..
i'm putting a 6g72 to an rx8 6 speed, in a 2000 lb FB RX7.. maybe this summer... other projects need attention first lol.
220hp/220tq. why? i have a spare 6g72 and rx8 6 speed. and an engine less 82 FB.
the cost? engine cost me 180, the trans 350, and everything else will be made my yours truely.
i'm concerned with the weakness of the rx8 6 speed, but i do have a turbo 5 speed, and a twin turbo 6g72 can get into the 600s with ease. however i don't WANT more then 400 in a FR layout.
save that for MR or AWD.

The 4g found in 3rd gen eclipses are good motors ive seen them run 20 pounds on stock internals and are simple to make Tons of torgue the prpblem with 6g72 is its better to run the 75 plenum and us. Rpw rods to turbocharge Reliably and to avoid spinning bearings.

Sounds good. I like a brappy 6. I looked into Mitsubishi engines but ran into the same problem finding iron blocks and lack of RWD transmission options. That's honestly THE reason the Isuzu v6 caught my attention. You can bolt just about anything to it and the internals are good as anything else with the exception of the crank.

Michigan SUCKED driving home. The roads were fine but the radio/news had everyone freaking out about ice so they were driving 40mph.

I have an idea! For the price, why don't you buy two rx-8's and weld them together. Just add some stickers and you would have like 500+ hp!

Im glad i skipped to the last page of this thread and only wasted 4 minutes of my life reading this crap.
