Swapping an engine is a ******* huge undertaking and quite a bit of dough, so most people aim much higher than a 180hp I6. Go big or go home. You may want to buy an E36 M3 if that's your bag. They're not as fun to drive as an RX8 but you can buy an entire car, and a cherry one at that, for less than the price of performing this swap.

A BMW six engine fits really really well in the RX-8, in fact it fits so well that you might think Mazda also tested a straight six in this chassie some time during development (probalby not but its scary how well it fits).

The RX-8 engine space is something in between an BMW E36 and E46.
