Anyone know if a LS1 will fit in an RX8?

The only part of the drive train that would be retained is the IRS differential. No one in their night mind would keep the Mazda 6MT in the car and the CF drive shaft could be sold to recover some conversion costs.

Normally id just say wtf and move on because im a purist but im starting to wonder what might happen if someone happened to actually follow through with it. If you can put this in there id be tempted.

Oh and for a swap like this there would definatly be alot of modification so things like balancing and handling would definatly be thought of and handled accordingly. A swap like this isnt a "backwoods garage" job by a long shot.

As a project for someone with the skill and resources to do it properly (i.e. upgrade more than the motor), I can see the attraction but personally I'd rather maximise the Renesis' potential and then move on to something else (e.g. 911, etc) if I was still after more power.

as far as an Ls2 or Ls7 instead of an LS1, if you can find either one of those for anything even close to the price of an LS1 (which you won't, but anything's possible) than go for it. I'll say it again, as much as i hate too, you won't find a cheaper, more reliable, more easily obtainable option than the LS1 for a swap. As sick as it is to do the 20b and all, you can get more power for cheaper, more reliability, with better mileage with an LS1. I really really hate to post it, but it's true. I myself am not ready to give up on our Renesis though, It took people a few years to figure out the 13b when it first came out, give this car more time and people will really start to see the potential of it.

I would also look into a Supra swap
If the RX-7 could do it why cant we?

Well the Rx-7 has a bunch of aftermarket support for the swap. I'm looking into doing a 2nd gen Ls1 swap.

You need new subframe mounts to put a V8 in, it's far from drop in. You need to change the transmission mounting too.
I'm sure someone will come out with these things for the 8 in due time. Especially with the recall.
