Anyone know if a LS1 will fit in an RX8?
I been thinking of putting one in my Yellow 04. I love the car and I just want to have more power without all the brain damage.

have you opened your hood? if someone can cram one into a miata it sure as hell will go into a rx8. you can get about anything inside the rx8 engine bay.
|
I think a stock LS1 and a T56 trans would make the 8 a blast to drive. I would leave the exterior stock and make it a sleeper.
|
but wouldnt it be amazing to fit a 350 in there.... ooooo
|
LS1 is a small block chevy
|
I was thinking that yesterday ! what a project that would be! I wonder if a mustang engine would fit better because of the ford relationship? I am a chevy man though, that thing would haul ass!
|
That engine would totally screw up the balance of the car.

That swap would be very damn interesting I must say. I know the rotary is light as hell compared to the ls1 so you'd definatly have to mess with the suspension hmmm damnit I'm starting to think about weight distribtion, mods, wiring and blah overwhelming myself. Oh and hey the dual exhaust will now make more sence. Hmm.. be nice if you could keep the 8's carbon fiber axel... blah my brain is all over the place right now.. shutting up |
does anybody know how much a renesis weight? a LS1 weights 50 pounds more than a FD motor.
|
I think I remember reading somewhere that the renesis is somewhere around 300 lbs. But I'm not sure on that.

A Ford small block may work better because of the way the oil pan is made, but that's just a guess.
|
Tiger.. your evil... though it would be funny to say to somebody about my Rx-8 when they ask
"What do you have in that?" "I gotz a Hemi!" |
It's also good for about a 28% increase in testosterone!http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...espect-020.gif

Couldn't be happier. I have yet to take her out and run her hard. Been busy with work and all. Looking into upgrading the exhaust soon.

Maybe I can get a cheap deal on one of the Rx-8's that was on the tilted ship there and make my own lil Tv mod show and slap a Ls1 in there myself hehehe..Though for shits and giggles we'll find a corvette and slap a rotary in there hahaha... now that would be some f'ed up shyt! |
If you want to remain a purist...
Insert a 3 or 4 rotor... They sound grrreat You could always go with a diesel, no torque problems there :) |
I LOVE the power delivery of the RX-8. A supercharger would be the way to go. Keep the jet like feel of the engine, just with more balls. :)
|
Why not a 20B ported?
I get the chills just thinking of that power. |

edit: I also forgot to mention the cost comparisons, an LS1 can be had much easier and cheaper than a 3 rotor (as much as i hate to say that..ugh), and will have better mileage, be easier to fix, and parts are more readily available. Say what you will about GM, but there's still a few things they can do right ...every now and then :D: |

BOT: I guess whatever happens is based on your decision of what you want. It's all under youre control, subduedracer. |
i'd take the hemi.
|
Skip the hassle of a swap and just buy a Corvette. Dropping an extra 400 Lbs in the front with half that in front of the axle centerline will make the car handle like shit not to mention all the drivetrain parts that are gonna break.
