Anyone know if a LS1 will fit in an RX8?

I been thinking of putting one in my Yellow 04. I love the car and I just want to have more power without all the brain damage.

Aseras 08-25-2006 02:20 PM

have you opened your hood? if someone can cram one into a miata it sure as hell will go into a rx8. you can get about anything inside the rx8 engine bay.

subduedracer 08-25-2006 02:22 PM

I think a stock LS1 and a T56 trans would make the 8 a blast to drive. I would leave the exterior stock and make it a sleeper.

silverwolf 08-25-2006 02:23 PM

but wouldnt it be amazing to fit a 350 in there.... ooooo

subduedracer 08-25-2006 02:25 PM

LS1 is a small block chevy

Papapump51 08-25-2006 04:15 PM

I was thinking that yesterday ! what a project that would be! I wonder if a mustang engine would fit better because of the ford relationship? I am a chevy man though, that thing would haul ass!

BlueSky 08-25-2006 04:22 PM

That engine would totally screw up the balance of the car.

You could sell your Engine to Mazda for the upcoming recall hehe sorry had to say it.

That swap would be very damn interesting I must say. I know the rotary is light as hell compared to the ls1 so you'd definatly have to mess with the suspension hmmm damnit I'm starting to think about weight distribtion, mods, wiring and blah overwhelming myself. Oh and hey the dual exhaust will now make more sence. Hmm.. be nice if you could keep the 8's carbon fiber axel... blah my brain is all over the place right now.. shutting up

BRGREEN8 08-25-2006 04:26 PM

does anybody know how much a renesis weight? a LS1 weights 50 pounds more than a FD motor.

mdw1000 08-25-2006 04:33 PM

I think I remember reading somewhere that the renesis is somewhere around 300 lbs. But I'm not sure on that.

tiggerlee 08-25-2006 04:36 PM

Ls1? hell why stop there?

How much do they weigh in comparison with the Renesis. It would also depend on where it was mounted, since the Renesis is pushed so far back. Don't know if you could fit a LS1 that far back and that low.

Georgia8er 08-25-2006 07:25 PM

A Ford small block may work better because of the way the oil pan is made, but that's just a guess.

Clavius 08-25-2006 08:30 PM

Tiger.. your evil... though it would be funny to say to somebody about my Rx-8 when they ask
"What do you have in that?"
"I gotz a Hemi!"

tiggerlee 08-25-2006 09:01 PM

It's also good for about a 28% increase in testosterone!http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...espect-020.gif

Hehe true.. but I just wish when I say "I have a Hemi in it" I actually had her in there

Btw how is the Goat treating ya man? One of my friends rode in one and says "Its a fucking beast definatly surprised by it!"

tiggerlee 08-25-2006 09:50 PM

Couldn't be happier. I have yet to take her out and run her hard. Been busy with work and all. Looking into upgrading the exhaust soon.

Still sucks they discontinued that car man... they should not of slapped the GtO name badge on it and it would of done much better. I know some people who said they wouldnt buy it soley because they thought the car's looks sullied the heritiage of the GtO. Damn shame Holden makes killer cars..

Maybe I can get a cheap deal on one of the Rx-8's that was on the tilted ship there and make my own lil Tv mod show and slap a Ls1 in there myself hehehe..Though for shits and giggles we'll find a corvette and slap a rotary in there hahaha... now that would be some f'ed up shyt!

If you want to remain a purist...
Insert a 3 or 4 rotor... They sound grrreat

You could always go with a diesel, no torque problems there :)

supergoat 08-25-2006 11:00 PM

I LOVE the power delivery of the RX-8. A supercharger would be the way to go. Keep the jet like feel of the engine, just with more balls. :)

RazzyBRX-8 08-25-2006 11:51 PM

Why not a 20B ported?
I get the chills just thinking of that power.

this has been beaten to death and proven to not be true in the FD, an LS1 would fit our cars with ease, and make it practically invincible as well. It would not ruin the balance of our car, if anything it may even improve upon it. Why pick an LS1 over a 20b? because the 20b has limited potential, just simple bolt ons on an LS1 would put you in the 5-600hp category with absolutely no compromises towards reliability etc. Then add heads and a cam, hell...even boost it....and you'll be trolling for vipers etc. I love my rotaries just as much as any purist, but I'm not an idiot who can't see how bad ass it would be to drop one of these in when the renesis finally kicks it, who knows, 3 years from now the car is paid for, and i'll have some extra spending money by then too, :naughty:

edit: I also forgot to mention the cost comparisons, an LS1 can be had much easier and cheaper than a 3 rotor (as much as i hate to say that..ugh), and will have better mileage, be easier to fix, and parts are more readily available. Say what you will about GM, but there's still a few things they can do right ...every now and then :D:

Honestly, that is excellent to know. I, too, want to see what the LS1 would do in this car.
The only engine swap (besides 20b) was the 2JZ...but I didn't keep up with the thread.

BOT: I guess whatever happens is based on your decision of what you want. It's all under youre control, subduedracer.

NgoRX8 08-26-2006 02:54 AM

i'd take the hemi.

kartweb 08-26-2006 10:19 AM

Skip the hassle of a swap and just buy a Corvette. Dropping an extra 400 Lbs in the front with half that in front of the axle centerline will make the car handle like shit not to mention all the drivetrain parts that are gonna break.
