well I tried to upload the video to youtube but it said the site was under maintenance so we'll see about trying again later. The sound of the video is terrible...the car is in a poll and it's all metal so it just echos and it's all distorted. But all in all it's a video I said I'd post. lol But anyways my dad has a guy at work that thinks he has a set of manifolds that I can use on the car...so hopefully friday I'll be able to drive it home with some what of a exhaust.

vroom808 03-31-2010 07:55 PM

how is it that one can obtain some RX-8 club stickers for the vent windows?

Cromus 03-31-2010 07:59 PM

It's really getting there. Keep up the good work

by finding another thread....

anyways I cant wait to see this vid, even if it is distorted lol

Yeah hopefully my dad has luck and brings me a set of manifolds home from work...cause if that's the case I'll have a exhaust to drive it around a little.

But then again exhaust or no exhaust the car will be drove around a little......hell I have full intentions on driving it down to my house.

Oh and a second thought I think my first driving video is going to be a bust....The inline fuel pump carries only about 5 psi during idle and just hitting the throttle a few times drops the fuel pressure down to 0 so I don't think she is going to make it. But then again I got to thinking I might try running the inline feeding the mechanical pump. That way maybe I can get my fuel pressure up to around 8 or so at a idle so it won't drop to 0 on wide open throttle.

YaXMaNGTO 04-01-2010 06:07 PM

Holy crap man! That's awesome!!!

Congratulations! Thanks for vid... one of these days I might be able to do my own.

outinnowhere3193 04-01-2010 07:44 PM

You know you can't hear it all that well cause it's all distorted but in person idleing the car actually sounds like the turbo'd cosmo motor.

I'm going to end up driving it home. But here after a couple of weeks I'll get the rest of the parts. From what I can tell now without even driving it is the inline fuel pump that my buddy had sitting there isn't going to work.

Turn it on goes up to 9psi start the engine and it holds the 9...but you hit the throttle and it drops to about 5 and then never comes back up. Hit the throttle again and you'll see 0 but then it will go back to 5. So my guess is when I wide open throttle on the road it will lean out and die out.

But as of now task to do to have the car finished is.

Fix a small oil leak I have
Get a belt for my water pump/alternator
Do the exhaust
Brace some things up more
Wrap my home made tie rods with gas pipe for more strength and do some more welding.

DRIVE it easy for the most part with some stress here and there then inspect welds and things to make sure everything is going good.

Oh and by the way guys...lol...baby stuff is also why I have no money. Babies do on the 21 of this month april

mscamp02 04-01-2010 08:26 PM

congrats on the baby and I hope she drives home safely

outinnowhere3193 04-01-2010 08:37 PM

GOOD NEWS I just got done talking to my neighbor who has a bunch of parts...and he said he would hook me up with a set of manifolds and the belt.

So I'm getting ready to go work on the car. I'm going to clean the car up and finish the tie rods tonight so all I'll have to do is put the exhaust and clutch in and she will drive. But plans tomorrow so hopefully saturday she will drive and I'll have a video for you guys.

Pmed ya back......

Anyways guys I'm getting tired of this car....lol

First clutch was wrong style...wouldn't work his goof.

Now second clutch and it won't work. Got the flywheel he said to get and the springs of the sprung part of my 6 puck hit the flywheel bolts!!!! Not by just a hair either.....So I don't think my flywheel is going to work on this car unless maybe I go with out a sprung clutch. But all and all it's going to be sitting at least till wed for my trans shop isn't open on the weekends and then he is going to have to order parts and this and that.

So I guess I'm going to just bring the car home..clean it up and see about the dash wiring.

Oh and I spent last night tearing down my motor do to a antifreeze leak. :( The instructions that came with my arp bolts said to use there lub and only finger tighten the studs...well doing so...I was leaking coolant around my studs causing it to leak...inside studs and outside studs. So I teflon taped all of them and actually torqued them a little....So I shouldn't have no more leaks...but anyways besides that... I plan on doing another video later today that's outside in the open and not in a metal garage so you guys can get a idea on how she runs and what not.

So what can I say...me and my buddy are to impatient...lol

He couldn't wait for me to either have someone make me headers or wait for me to get stuff....so he went to harbor freight and bought this pipe bender that you have to manually bend the pipe using a jack and two 10 foot pieces of pipe.

so it took me a total of 12 hours before running out of welding wire but this is as far as I got lol. 12 hours and only got one side done...but I do have all the pipe bent for the other side just needs welded up.

I have high temp paint that I'll end up painting it with and then heat rap on top of that. But finally within the next couple of days I'll have exhaust and a transmission to drive the car. SWEET!!!

I hate how everything came together so quick...but of course I had the money and now it's not so quick....

But by the way not naming the kid zoom zoom...lol It will be Teagan Lee Marie Ivy

holy crap that looks agricultural
Have you had much experience using a welder before taking on this project?

mscamp02 04-07-2010 07:14 AM

header doesntlook to bad, kinda hard to tell though from fuzzy pic but still good job!

olddragger 04-07-2010 09:32 AM

Dude ---way to go. Those bends look nice!
One question if i may---will those headers support a 500hp motor?
With the cam and all you are running i wonder about that short pipe on the header.

As for pretty---just has to finish them out?

Have you done much welding with flux core??? or a cheap welder??? Flux core always looks like a cold weld.

Flux pops and cracks and splashes a lot. They leave this color that makes it look bad and the popping makes it very rough looking. I could take a picture of a welded line that looks really good then take a pass beside it and from all the splashing and popping that first weld look like crap.

But as far as the headers go. From what I could tell on the net the everyday header has about a 1 3/4 pipe. But even at 1 1/2 that's 6 inches of pipe for 4 cylinders so I think it will be fine.

From what I read.. longer the header pipe the bigger the pipe needs to be. Shorts can have small pipes.

Besides it it chokes the engine a hair I don't think it's going to effect me much.

E.M.S. 04-07-2010 11:41 AM

flux core looks like poop until you hit it with a wire wheel, then, if you knew what you were doing it looks like art. when i was building off road trucks i would use flux core all the time and people would give me shit online because everyone knows everything when they are behind a keyboard. but once it was brushed i would get compliments galore. people amaze me.

good work man and good luck with the tranny trouble. and the kid of course

thank you... I guess someone else knows what it's like to weld with flux....A lot of people think it's not as good but frankly I love my flux...I can grind my weld and there is no gaps...it's always good and solid and when I get done welding the weld and the metal I was welding is always glowing a nice red so I know it's doing a good job.

oh and According to hot rod magizine....1 3/4 they produced 670 hp and torque and then stepped up 1 7/8, to 2 inch, to 2 1/8, 2 1/4 and the overall result was 1 7/8 had the overall best and the pipes was 35 inches long. mine are about 8-10.....

But all in all my pipe shouldn't choke the engine at all it they did 670 hp

Yea, but the way you combined those primaries is gonna hurt. Sure 1 3/4" is good for 670hp IF its 1 3/4" per cylinder. The way you did that basically halved the power capacity of that primary size. Especially at that 60 degree entry :( Not trying to bash here, just....anyone and everyone is going to point that out to you. Especially when you are shooting for such high numbers from a small stroker. Yah 500hp is....possible, but not if you start gimping it with Git-er-done fabrication choices.

Yeah I know I didn't want to run the one into the other but I really didn't have a choice...Only way could of ran it would of been going towards the front of the motor and around my motor mount which would make it where it would have to be put on before the motor is in and then you'd never be able to take it out or do any work on that side. But yeah you don't like my git-er-done work huh...lol and yeah I know I didn't like bridging into that other pipe but I didn't realize I was going to have to do that till it was too late.

I should of worked from the front to the back rather then the back to the front.

Mawnee 04-07-2010 01:36 PM

Tack and test fit, Tack and test fit :D:

I actually got called out in my build thread for doing something similar.
