Start a thread, you will get all the answers you seek. You may not like them all but that is just the way it goes, gotta take the good with the bad. And I don't wanna meet up to talk about a carbed 80's 350 powered RX-8, just the idea that your car exists makes me cringe.

yes, i have a Mr. Gasket regulator followed by a Mr. Gasket Pressure Gauge. so far i have it at 6psi but its too hot to even go outside and mess with it till alil later today.

Hey Guys,
Been a very long time since A. I updated this thread, and B. Looked at my RX8 lol.
Well, I was obsessively working every single night on this car up until I brought in a customer car to do a procharged LS2 build. That build was a great loss of money overall, and pretty much destroyed my body with how much I was working on it. Needless to say, by the time May came around and I was done it and back to mine, I was burned out and without the money required to finish my car.
So, the car sat in the corner of my shop basically all summer. I eventually moved shops, and the car was placed into storage.
Anyways, I am finally back working on it again and I am very excited for what the future holds for it!
Pictured here on her last day in storage before getting moved to my garage at my new place!
So, the plans have changed drastically for this car. Partly to cut costs in certain areas, and partly because I was kinda tired of being another LS swapped car. The other issue that I have, is that this car has become basically impossible to insure, providing I am being honest. But I am not willing to roll the dice on, god forbid some issue coming up, and my insurance denying my claim. So, the car may be a track only car now, but we will see how this build goes!
I am sure some of you will think this is pointless, but hear me out. (Or don't, I dont really care lol! )
Engine: 2.1L stroker based off Audi 1.8t 20V engine. Large turbo, changed intake cams, valvetrain set for 9000rpm redline. This engine is coming from a friend of mine, who is currently making 804whp with it. It will be turned down considerably for the main reason of mine being a time attack car, and his is a drag car. I will be running it around 500whp.
Transmission: W58 from MK3 supra with ACME Adapter.
Water to air intercooler system, reusing 340LPH fuel system that the LS used, cooling system will be all braided AN fittings, and the front end will be very much built around air flow through & around the front end of the car.
The reason for this decision is:
A. This engine is tiny & rather light
B. The engine offers significantly more space to play in the engine bay
C. Single exhaust system
D. Cause I can, and 2 steps are fun AF.
I will keep updating this thread as I go with the build. I am working to have even more attention to detail and general build cleanliness over what it was with the LS. I dont **** with the halfassed swaps. If its worth doing, its worth over doing.

NotAPreppie - haha, man I hope I am safe from that! The PCV system will be a clean sheet design entirely, and hopefully the oil will never be in the engine long enough to see sludge, as I doubt the engine will see more then 15k miles before it is spread open on a bench again hahaha

Being the owner of the other one being built on here. This is only a mule car to test a few things out. So doesn't have to be nice. I have 2 other shells. One that will have time spent on it, while this one is used for testing. You can pick these things up cheap here. Last one cost just £50.
Cheers John

Bit of an update!
The car is officially out of storage, and ready for transfer to my garage for the rest of the work to begin!
The final "in storage" shot
And then moving it out LOL, not so much fun moving this thing around with no subframes lol.
Spent a bit of time this weekend workin on the rear subframe for the car. As I believe I noted earlier on in the thread, the upper aluminum diff mount bar and the nose mounts I had made, failed on me at the end of the '15 season, and ultimately led to parking the car for updating.
Having learned a bit about what goes on in the rear subframe now, I am trying to make it a good bit stronger so I dont end up with the diff ripping a CV axle out of it again lol! Unfortunately, and I doubt I am the only one who experienced this, but maybe the only one who noticed, when the diff fell and damaged the lower support bar, it actually pulled the subframe and it was somewhat bent.
I cut the bar which relieved some tension and then I had to get a bit of force in to spread it on the one side while I replaced the beams in it. Measured 50x now, and it seems to be perfectly square, and identical measurements to the one out of my parts car which isnt damaged, just rusty haha
I am going to be doing 2 tubes that go from the front tube to the back plates that are welded on, and the upper diff support will go between them. Will update some more pictures this week as I finish it up. In the mean time, here are a few pics. Still lots of work left and lots of clean up needed before it sees some paint. I am just a hobby welder, no claims to be able to make the prettiest welds
And in the "Avro Arrow" color them I am going to be going with, painted the diff!
And of course I was enjoying some extra delicious IPA's as I was working
More this week!

Got a bit more work done on the rear subframe last night!
The 2 top brace tubes are cut & notched, started cutting out the plates the diff will mount to, but then my air compressor over heated Oh well, get that done tonight!
There will be a 1/4" plate going between the 2 tubes that the upper mount section will bolt to, then I will be making 2 pieces for the nose of it to hold onto the front of the diff.
And I guess another update for the build.
Since insurance is mandatory in Ontario, I've spent the last few weeks trying to figure out how I can insure the car to be street driven next summer. Unfortunately, the only way I can legally insure it, is an agreed value policy, which carry's an absolutely obscene yearly premium ($6k++) because the car is engine swapped, structurally altered, and so many upgrades on it.
In light of that information, and since I wont do what I did when I last drove the car (insured it as if a stock car) , the car is going to be a track only toy now.
So, with that in mind, the build is going to take a bit of a turn, and will be getting full caged, working to make it lighter, aero will be a little more wild etc. I have a bitter sweet feels towards it, excited as I have more freedom to push my abilities in fabrication and design, but kinda sad I cant cruise it with my buddies. Oh well, just means it will float to all the shows!
Also means I am going to have to learn how to race, as I learned the last time I drove the RX8 on the track, I realized I have a ton of learning to do LOL.
This is my inspiration so far, but livery will be entirely different!

Managed to get the car moved home this weekend!!
Of course, this car refuses to ever let my life be easy haha. We brought the subframes to quickly slam up into the bottom of the car so we could make it a roller and avoid having to load the car on the little cart it was on, but none the less, we were successful!!!
Set her up in the garage (little bit tighter work space this winter lol)
Quickly got to work on disassembly
First order of business for it, will be starting work on the roll cage! Interior is still getting the last bits stripped, and working on planning it out before I order tube.
This is the closest example I have seen online to how I want to set the cage up
Should be a fun build!!!

Welp,
Nothing overly exciting for updates, but I'm bored and at a desktop so I figure Ill throw a couple more pics up.
Almost done gutting the interior, working on removing the original wiring harnesses (which wont be reinstalled, as I will rewire the entire car from scratch since I like wires and doing weird stuff), have the sunroof out now and I have to sort out how I am going to close it up. Still need to finish removing the sound deadener on the floors.
Thankfully having my room mate around makes some of the extra hands work a little easier. He thinks he can drive better this way LOL
Started work on making up a cardboard template for the main hoop, Working on making up templates for the footing as I am going also. Trying to make sure I am keeping withing the rules of SCCA cage so I dont make this thing even more useless then it already is LOL.
I am going to tackle the cage build myself. While it will be my first build, everyone has to start somewhere, and I am lucky to have some talented fabricators around me to lean on for advice. I am tooled fairly well for the build, so I figure it is worth a shot. Still working on fabricating a few more tools to make the cage build easier.
Hopefully next update includes some shots of footing & tubes in place! Just need my order of plasma cutter consumables to arrive!

It's good to see you back at it Sheldon Watching you motivates me to get going on my planned upgrades. Looks like you are well on your way at this point to make the car track legal only, but there is a company in Canada, which will insure your car for the appraised value for very reasonable coin. My car is insured for $40k and my premiums are less than $500 annually for full coverage (except for track use - there I am on my own). If you are ever interested, shoot me an email and I'll give you specifics.

I wonder if they cover in ontario also! I have had most people laugh at me when I called for quotes, or bent over LOL. Oh well, I am excited for it to be setup as a track only car now, just gotta build myself a nice trailer in the spring!
I have been starting work on the footings for the roll cage this week, looking forward to the weekend coming up so I can lock myself in the garage all weekend haha!
Garage pic supporting my buddy who runs Basic Builds (@basicbuilds on IG)
Made up some templates, and making sure everything stays within SCCA rules. These plates are .120" thick, and sq inch coverage is good
Thankful for my plasma cutter, that is for sure! I need a bigger air compressor though, as I quickly overheat my 20gal compressor I have when I am running the plasma cutter alot
Bunch of plates cut out, will need to spend some time this weekend with the flap wheel massaging everything to fit perfect! Also need to grab some dry ice tomorrow night to remove the sound deadener
