Trouble with reverse.

So I just bought a Metallic blue 2004 RX8 6speed (love it by the way). And for some reason it doesn't seem to want to go in reverse. I have to rev the engine really high with my foot on the clutch and then grind the gears really hard to get it in there. Anybody know why this is happening or how to fix it?

Check to make sure the lockout tab is allowing it to go into reverse. ( remove the shift boot and the rubber seal and look at the top of the shifter tower when you try and put it in reverse

Sometimes when you push down and over the tab still doesn't let it engage properly

Other than that you could have a bent shifter fork or other internal problem...

I had this issue at first too. As above, just remove the shift boot and make sure it's all clear. Mine was just gunked up a bit so wasn't engaging smoothly. After a good clean, worked perfect.
