Too good to be true?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the rotary world but love the looks of the xr8. I found an 04 6 speed manual in excellent shape and very low mileage. 13k to be exact. Dealership is asking 12,500 dollars for it. Looked at another one in town same exact car just 100k more miles on it for 11,000 dollars. The 12 thousand dollar one seems like a good deal but are there things I should be on the lookout for on such a low mileage car? It ran great and everything worked on it as far as i could tell. Should i be worried aince it is out of mazdas 8 year warranty?

Hi, that sounds like a good deal to me for a GT, maybe too good. A base model might be more in line.

I paid more than that for my 04 GT with 18k over a year ago.
Get a list of features and look up KBB dealer value for an idea of what it could be worth.

Ask the dealer for a carfax report to see if there is a récord of regular oil changes, ask for an OBD scan, and a rotary specific compression test is a must!
(2 sets of 3 numbers, 1# for each of the 3 faces on the 2 rotors).
No comp test, no deal!
AsK for at least a 1 year extended warranty.
Call MNAO with the vin# to check if all recalls were addressed, (reflashes, upgraded starter, etc,)
Most importantly, read the new member section stickies!!!!!!
Everything you need to know is there.
Check little things, like the drivers sun visor is not broken, and no condensation in the tail lights.
Common annoyance problems that would have been fixed by an attentive owner.

Shortly after buying mine, I had to replace the battery,
the cat went bad,(or was already bad) and plugs coils,
& wires.
I don't regret it, I aabsolutely LOVE IT!

It is way too high IMO. I do not know where you live or what the options package is on the vehicle, so I booked out a fully loaded GT in Texas. NADA says it's worth $9900 and KBB says it's worth $10680. This is of course a car that is in immaculate condition. Book it out in your area with the correct options and see what's it's worth and you should not pay a dime more than that. Of course do all the things the previous poster suggested as well.

Age is probably dropping value rapidly as well.
Bought mine in July of '12.
It was right at KBB value at that time.
I also neglected to mention the dealer's asking price is usually high, & you can usually buy for well below that.
I got mine for $3500 less than their ridiculous asking price.
The standard salesman's line of "What price can get you in this car today?" will come into play at some point.

KBB prices the car at 10,521. As far as i could tell everything seemed to work. It was a rainy day when i looked at it so theres definatly no leak in the rear tailights. The headlights arent fogged up either. It looks to have been garage kept all its life. The heated seats work and all the lights and electronics. Reckon the guy probably sold it because the mazda warranty is out? I'm in central Indiana and theres quite a few aroun here. I saw 4 of them yesterday in a 10 mile drive.
