Does this look like a good RX8 R3?

I realize that it's not possible to say, "Yes, this car is awesome" without — you know, actually SEEING it in person!

But....based on the specs and price, what do you guys think of this one?

2009 Mazda RX-8 For Sale in Flower Mound, TX - CarGurus

It apparently has been modified, as it has three extra gauges on the console. Not sure what to make of that.

It has a Racing beat intake, exhaust (looks like Turbo XS so find out about the midpipe/cat), and the gauges. Generally I stay away from modded cars when buying but as long as you get a compression test prior to purchase you should be good.

Thanks for the reply! Can you tell me what those modifications mean? As in, what was their purpose —*how do they affect the car's performance/driving? Thank you!

Well all those mods are pretty useless to be honest performance wise other than the fact that they make the car sound better. But they are quality items and tasteful mods. That is assuming they are the only mods.

Mario, make sure you get a rotary specific compression test. A regular test won't show you much. Any Mazda dealer can do it. You will get six numbers and an rpm. Come back and tell us what it says

What do you think of the price?
$14,000 for an RX8 R3 at 60,000 miles.
(I'll also have to pay $700 to have it shipped to Dallas.)

Crazy question about this car:
If anyone is in the area, would you be willing to test drive it, if I pay for your time?

This is kind of funny... I live less than 5 minutes from Lee Johnson in Kirkland. Lol! I basically drive by this thing everyday..

Just for fun, I drove by this car in the back lot a few weeks ago, and to be honest, it didn't look to hot.. It was a little scratched up and stuff. Good condition - not great condition. Just looked like the previous owner was a little sloppy.

Eric, that's so cool that you drove by, man. Thanks!

So I finally talked the dealership into doing a compression test — I had to fill out a credit app so that they'd see that I'm a serious buyer — and the results came in today. The engine failed.

What are your thoughts on the value of the vehicle if they put a new engine in there, as they're saying they'll likely do? And will the new engine be covered under any kind of warranty?

Mario, thats really a bummer about the engine man. Good thing you got it tested!

Not sure about the warranty, but since it's still under 100k and a 2009, I assume that they're should still be some warranty left.

The value of the vehicle will likely not change. If they follow proper procedure, the should perform a compression check on the new engine. See if you can get a copy of the results, should you purchase the car. Good luck

They're putting in the new (well, reman) engine, which raises some other questions. Becuase I felt like it was veering into some broader, not-specific-to-this-thread kinds of questions, I posted a separate thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...8/#post4714376

But Eric, can you give me more of your impressions about the vehicle when you saw it? What kinds of things made it look sloppy and not well-cared-for?

I actually live in Dallas, so if I move forward with this purchase, I'll be rolling the dice, and buying long distance (!!), so any info you can provide would be awesome. Thanks!

One more question:
Does anybody know of a good rotary mechanic in the Kirkland, WA, area that I could send by there to evaluate the car?

If I remember correctly, the rear tail lights had some condensation and the headlights were a little foggy too. I mean, it was pretty nice. It just had some normal wear to it. A good waxing would help for sure.
