Thank you for add. I need some advise about my brothers RX-8

Hello and thank you for add.
I need some advice about my brother's RX-8. He doesn't have any internet knowledge so asked me if I could find him some help. Any info would be great!

My brother has a 2009 RX-8, 6 speed Silver/Gray 84,000 miles

My brother recently had a heart breaking fire in his RX-8. He wasn't driving it for the past few months because of the Covid-19 problem. He went outside this week and decided to start it and let it charge the battery. He walked to the trash and when he returned the dash was on fire. After the fire department came the car's pass. dash was melted and there is a lot of water in the rear foot wells. Amazingly the car still starts and drives.... He only had collision insurance on it, so he is kinda screwed. He is looking to sell it now.
Is there any market for this car in this condition?
Is there any market for parting it out?
What would be a good price to list it?
Thank you in advance for any help...he is crushed!

Ouch, sorry to hear that really sucks. Do you have pictures of the damage?

Ouch. Any idea what caused it? Critter built a nest out of wiring insulation while it was sitting?
Is there a market? I mean... there isn't even a strong market for unburned RX8's, but with patience it can be done. Understanding the extent of the damage would definitely help. Water can be dried out before it molds, and dash plastic can be replaced. Obviously you probably want to make sure that whatever caught fire isn't likely to do so again...

Anything unburnt can be parted out. S2 engine block is worth something unless it's the source of fire.
There's always a market for stock cat. Mazda cats are $$$.
R3 Recaro is money.
R3 wheels is money.
R3 bodykit?
Bilstein suspension is money... although that might apply to S2.
S2 starter?

Actually could be repaired if you wanted to. Looks like it was some kind of electrical short that caused a fire under the dash. That's pretty crazy, I've never seen this happen in an RX8. You would need to find the plastics, new headliner, new sun visors, some replacement carpeting and any wiring that is burnt/missing but that isnt far gone at all. Should sell, especially if running and driving. Just would be a bit of a project.

What do you think he could list it for if he sold it as is? It is a great running car....

You may make more parting it out in that condition, unless you find a diehard rotary fan..

84k miles is high mileage for a Rotary.

Parting it out you would probably make more money but it would be a lot more work. It's really up to you but as it sits be lucky to get 2000-2500. I'd just fix it.

I agree here. Its worth a lot more keeping it than selling it.
