Totaled

Hey guys, I know this is not the best thread of them all, but well today, I totaled my rx8 I was devastated, still am. I was driving the speed limit, going northbound on a street, some girl turns in front of me causing me to T-bone her. My 8 is now totaled and her car didnt stand a chance. 3 witnesses say that I was definitly not at fault so that means a new rx8 for me :D (you gotta look at the good things) At first I could not stop crying, I am an 18 year old college student working my butt off to afford this car, my baby, and now it's gone. I was not injured at all thank god, The rx8 is amazing to say the least. The whole front end crushed like an accordian and there was NO spec of dust moved in the cabin, all the airbags worked fine and I came out of it perfect, just shooken up and devasted at the look of my 8. My dad took pictures of the whole accident, if you guys don't want to see it, I understand, I am still teary eyed. I love my RX8 to pieces, and now that is all it is.

The moral? The rx8 is one hell of a beast, I felt so safe in it, and yes I still do, even after totaling, I thank god that I was driving that and not another car.

5/5 star crash rating
-Matt

You'd be surprised what insurance companies don't consider "totalled". Wish you the best of luck that your car IS totalled. You wouldn't want them fixing it !

Unfortunately stuff happens, the most important thing is that you weren't hurt. Objects can always be replaced.

Wow, sorry about that dude, at least you're well.

I only hear good things about the RX8 holding up in crashes and we hear a lot about them: about once every week and a half. I hope the other driver is ok as well. Now, you've got a decision: 1.Save money and get a 2004. Or get an 05. You could actually be getting a brand new loaded 8 for this.

I'm so sorry to hear about this and I can COMPLETELY relate. I wrecked mine 2 weeks ago and the cost of damage keeps going up. Everything will work out fine, be glad you're not hurt and know that it could always be worse.

Get a white 05 as your replacement, it's a similar color, but without the curse

Naw, if you want to see "kicking a guy while he's down" check out my wreck thread. There isn't anything wrong with being gay.

As for your 5/5 safety rating, I totally agree. I took a direct side impact into the head of a guard rail at probably ~45mph (guesstimate) at impact, and came out without a scratch. The car jumped up about 2 feet in the air and came down hard, yet no roll-over. It's got a 5 star roll-over rating, and handles like it's driving on rails. I'll take a small RX-8 over a huge suburban any day of the week.

Don't worry, he's not getting another RX8. After the initial shock, denial, and feelings of loss and missing, he'll get excited looking at other cars.

All you guys are great! you guys make me feel a lot better. Yes I am still going to definitely get another RX8 and probably silver, I love the silver, but I will look for others. As for the wreck, I am getting better out of it, still shocked but that is normal. And for the great question...no, I am definitely not gay haha. Thanks for the posts though

I don't know about that. The 8 offers a lot for it's price especially those buying new 04's (you lucky a*holes). Plus, especially for this driver, it proved it can take a crash and protect it's occupant. It might have saved his life. I'm sure his parents are thankful and believers.

If his RX8 is deemed a total loss, it still won't be assigned full value. He said he's definitely going to get another RX8 but then he said he's looking at other cars. This is the beginning of the end. I believe his dad is also giving him opinions and influence. The loss of value means he has to ultimately put in more for the same car, which is something his dad would remind him of. The gas mileage issue is always there, especially for a teen in college. Therefore I predict he gets a Mustang GT (cheaper, more HP, more signs of **** craftsmanship that teenagers love to love), Acura TSX (cheaper and better mileage), or waits for the new Lexus IS (the IS250 will be cheaper and better mileage).
