Hmm. I wonder if I'm wrong then?

Unless maybe for a subset of 2004s, even with the flash, it physically can't do it due to a cluster difference.

Don't take my word for it I guess.

Ok, thanks, I really should have called to be sure.
I will now, wouldn'y be the 1st time a dealer said they did something & didn't do it.
Sorry kaseysdad; no more threadjacking.

My 04 has the needle sweep for confirmation.. But I cant locate any sticker under my hood or door jamb to confirm what Flash its currently on. I called my local dealer to investigate and the tech had no idea what a flash was lol

I know I need the reflash, was planning on it and a comp test when I can get it to the dealership. It just cut off like it lost fuel. I think when it started acting up it was cutting out at successively lower rpms. I'm going to test the fuel pump and drop and check the cat. Just have to wait til Friday.

Thread jack away. Just got the car and other peopkes problems are something I want to look out for.

This sounds contradictory. It shut off abruptly but at successively lower RPMs?

If you could at some point get a video of it dying maybe it would help.

The reason i ask is because if the fuel pump was overheating until it abruptly shuts down, then it is going to behave differently than say a vacuum leak where the ECU is trying to keep the engine running but can't.

First problem driving on the road wouldn't go over 3000. When I got home having trouble getting 2000. Parked where I could work on it about 1200 was all I got the last time she fired. Now she will not fire at all. So she dies abruptly, but each time she dies it from a lower rpm.

That suggests some sort of restriction to airflow that is getting worse and worse. Either intake or exhaust.

There is no mention in the thread about a cat yet, so I'm going to point the finger at a completely blocked cat.

That's what I was starting to think. I've pbed my bolts and I'm going to drop the cat this weekend. I also thought if the fuel pump was not fully energizing I would get fuel cut and eventually no fuel. Going to check it through with a multimeter.

Heres an update. Dropped the cat today. Still will not start. Noticed something though. With a ten seconds rest with the key off I get nothing. With a two minute rest and the key in the on position I get firing up to 500 for a few seconds and then it drops to just starter. Thinking it may be fuel pump. Ideas?

I am going to fix this. If I have to rebuild the engine I will fix it. Oil test tomorrow. I never thought I'd hope it didn't start.

Aeromotive 15120 and a 1/8"npt 0-100psi gauge to check the fuel pressure.

I have a rental fuelp pressure test kit. Where's the best place to tie in? But before I go through all that, theres a bunch of oil on the back of my air filter. Will that suffocate the engine?

Oil on your filter means you probably need to clean the maf sensor

Its from adding oil without a nice long bottom funnel. I wouldn't worry too much about oil on the filter but it will make the maf read bad and that could be the cause of all your problems.

The place i would test fuel pres is on the line right next to your brake booster. The red clip.

If there is significant amount of oil then your best bet is to drop in a new filter clean the box, clean all the accordian tubes, clean the maf, clean the throttle body and put everything back on. It should help..
and get a catch can, I still need to get one. Hence, I am planning to clean the entire intake system uptill upper intake manifold.

I have 0 fuel pressure. I have an open line and crank and nothing comes out. My ecu says I have 21% of a tank of gas. My pump energizes. I am going to feel like an idiot and be so happy at the same time if my gas gauge is broken and I'm just out of gas. Should I add gas and try again or should I trust my ecu and look for fuel system problems? My only fear is everyone says don't mess with the pump on anything more than 25% fuel

Lol put in 5 gallons and give it a try. If you hear your fuel pump you should at least get some flow.

You could pull your fuel pump and look to see if the tank is empty but thats a huge pita.

Yeah, fuel gauge failures aren't common, but they have happened. Add some fuel and try again

Worse case, it's gas that you will eventually buy anyway, so it doesn't hurt anything or cost anything.

BUT,

Do not fill it, you cannot get the pump out, without make one heck of a mess, if the tank is more than half full. I would only do a few gallons, like um, 2.

Yeah i did a pump with 3/4 tank. When i broke the seal it came pouring out i rolled the car back into the driveway which has a nice sloap so i did not flood the inside with gas.

3 gallongs of gas. 3 stinking gallons of gas. I have been losing sleep over 3 gallons of gas. 10 liters. 10000 ml. Put three stinking gallons of gas in and it took all of 5 seconds for her to crank. 3 gallons. That's was it. Broken fuel gauge. 2 pages of posts. Every vaccuum hose checked. Cat dropped. Just 3 gallons of gas.

It might still be a fuel pump issue. You might have a Venturi problem. How much did it take for a complete fillup.

Glad you got it working. And bonus points for letting us know you got it fixed.

Haven't gotten it off the jack stands yet. Figured I'd do a little maintenance. Opened up the brakes and cleaned everything, lubricated the slides, took measurements for a new splash guard, and cleaned the MAF. I'm reassembling the battery box. Then I'm going to take it for a quick spin and get it up to temperature. Then drop the coolant again and run a flush for a few days. Thinking of decarbing the engine, opinions wanted. Cannot wait til I know my car inside and out and have my own maintenance record.
