Should I buy this car

Greetings, All-

I usually drive random old imports that I get cheap, but have been saving for a new car, and my current beater died yesterday.

The dealer down the road has an 05 RX8 (link below) which caught my eye, although I think the asking price is a bit high.

Any advice on RX8s for someone who has never owned a car like this before?

I did some initial research and am worried that they might be too expensive or difficult for an inexperienced owner to maintain. Thoughts?

If I am correct about the price being high, what should be my cash offer?

Thanks!!

Considering it's an older car out of all warranties, you'll want to make sure you can and want to afford an engine replacement should it need one (these things do happen, it's a risk).

So. If you're ok with that, then go for it.

Maybe not that one though, the pre-2006 automatics are underpowered and.. automatic.

Thanks. What's the ballpark for an engine replacement? $4k-5k?

Price is Too High

Check the Kelley Blue Book.

CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 2005 MAZDA RX8: JM1FE17N350159427
Is an interesting read. 3 previous owners; first owner meticulously maintained the car. Records beyond that are spotty. Was sold at auction in February, 2015.

You need to see the results of a rotary specific compression test. Post those results here.

Rotary specific compression test BEFORE buying any rotary car ! And you will have a better shot at longevity with a manual. The autos were notorious for being underpowered and early engine failures. Loads of threads about that on this forum.
