I got a question guys.

My blinkers only work sometimes. More precisely, my blinkers work for the first few minutes of turning the car on and then stops working all together (even the hazard don't work). They start working again after being off for a few hours.
What do you guys think is going on?
Wrong bulb?
Dirty connectors?
Bad grounding?

My first impression is that the flasher module ($5-25 part) might be the issue. Are you able to tap into the wiring to see if the voltage in and out are consistent over time to isolate the flasher?

Sorry for the late reply. I talked with some guys about this and they think that it's some kind of reported resistor issues. So, because of the high load and heat, it stops working after a few minutes of driving it. I'm not sure this is the actual problem, but seems to fit the cause of the problem I'm facing. I'd like to crack it open and see what's wrong, but I'd like to buy a new module in case. Do you know any good sites where I could get one from for a reasonable price?

It could be - but the flasher module is only $10 USD max and is easy to replace. If you don't know how to test the leads, buy the cheap part and do a swap to see if it is fixed.

 

Hey! Sorry again for the late reply! Where do you find the module for 10$ USD? Because the lowest I see them going is 70$ + shipping.

 

I replaced the flasher control module, but no luck. I checked up the fuse and it seems to be working fine.
Here's a bit more info I noticed while I was trying to troubleshoot:
- Flasher/Hazard system works when the car is cold, but stops working when it heats up

If you guys know any stuff I could check, it would help a lot!

 

Dredging this thread back up because I cannot post a new thread yet. And this topic is nearly the same as mine. Just bought my son a 2006 RX-8 about 3 weeks ago. Car is in decent or better shape, but not perfect.

It only seems to have 2 issues that need repair at this time. The blinkers not working and RH door handle broken. Other than that, the car seems good.

As for the blinkers, I read threads here in the RX8club, and read info in other places. What my son and I have done is.

• Checked the hazard fuse under the hood. It was good. We put in a new fuse, just in case (my eyes don't see as good as they used to).
• Checked all the fuses in the kick panel left of the clutch pedal. Every fuse was good.
• Replaced all 4 blinker bulbs with new bulbs (looked like the old bulbs were original, their amber color was chipping and faded).
• Pulled the flasher relay, and replaced it with a brand new OEM, same part number flasher.
• Replaced the blinker stalk with a new OEM blinker stalk.

After all that, the blinkers (and hazards) STILL do not work.

I'm at a loss. Where should we attack next?

To follow up this thread. I got the blinkers working YESTERDAY (6/8/2023). You guys won't believe what fixed it. So my son was sitting in the car, we were doing various things, and he left the left blinker in the ON position. I pulled the flasher fuse out once again to make sure it hadn't blown from the things we had done. When I pushed it back it, I noticed the blinker winked. So I pulled the fuse out and again and pushed it in again, again it winked. Then I started pulling the fuse partially out, more winking. I then pushed the fuse side to side, and if I held the fuse pushed toward the front of the vehicle the blinker would blink and keep blinking like normal (the blinker stalk was left on the ON position).

So I then shoved the fuse puller between the flasher fuse and the next fuse back. Picture below. And the blinkers ALL, and the 4-way flashers all work just fine. In the end, I put the fuse puller back where it goes and shoved a push clip into that spot. My son drove it about 15 miles and it kept working the whole time.

What I figure is that maybe there's some corrosion or a burnt spot or something of that nature, on either the 12V bus, or the female spade (type) connector on the other side of the fuse. And pushing that fuse in that direction, pushes the fuse into touching a healthy part of either.

I hope this may help others. The 15A fuse to the left of the puller is the subject fuse. Jamming the puller in there pushes that fuse toward the front of the vehicle. This made the blinkers / hazard flashers work.

 

Hey man! I'm glad it worked out for you! You know what's the funny thing, after I replaced my wire, I started to have the same issue like you did with the fuse! Whenever I pushed the fuse down, I noticed that the system worked. So I had to add a shim in the fuse leg to make the contact work with the fuse box the the whole system worked. again! One other thing I'd like to add is that, for those who needs to re-wire the flasher system, I passed the wire from the fuse box to the cabin by using the hood latch hole. This saved me the headache to drill a hole in the firewall.
