RX8 problems.

Hey guys i just got a Mazda RX8 project car and it also happens to be my first car. The car is a 2004 Rx8 with 134000 km on it. it seems like the engine has a problem. It starts but very rough. when i rev it up it dies and wont go back to idle, i have to slowly release the gas pedal to bring it back to idle. Does anybody know whats going on?

Was it someone else's project car before you purchased it? Try to get a compression test. You can find everything here in this forum. It could be any number of things (fuel- ignition- compression- electrical...you get the idea). The new owners guide is going to be your new best friend. Spend as much time as you can reading through that information. It will give you a diagnostic plan so to speak and where to start your investment. Feel free to post your findings to help other new members.

sounds great and thanks. as for the car im not sure if it was his project or not. this car was bought at a insurance auction. the story goes that some guy pissed off his girlfriend and she attacked the car with a knife and did alot of damage. Also it looked to have been in a minor front end accident but not much damage to the front. the guy had it as a project and he fixed the interior of the car but still missing radio and climate controls. but will start looking into the car and seeing what could be wrong with it.

Get an OBD reader and scan for codes and fuel trims at idle. That will give you indication of where to look.
