Thumbs down Problems, Problems, Problems

I am brand new to this site, mostly because I have been searching the web to see if any other RX-8 owners out there have been going thru the hell I have been going through with this car...and luckily I have found out that many people HAVE experienced some of the same things I have with the rattle-trap so I am not the only one in the world.

I have owned my 8 since June and have 17K on the thing. I have had it in the shop 3 times now for the no start/lack of power TSB (it is in the shop as I speak). It has never run as nicely as the car that I test drove and it has been a $30,000 joke. I really do LOVE the looks and feel of the car. Everywhere I go, people stop and stare at it and I was really expecting more. It squeaks, it shakes, it rattles, it pulls to the left and right and the most disappointing part of it all is the lack of horsepower---but actually, it is the lack of the car even running like any normal car should...it hesitates to start, it does not accelerate, & it idles funny. I had 4 managers at the dealership yesterday behind closed doors listening to my concerns and they are working with me on a possible buy back or trade-in situation. I really wish that I could say that I was as happy as a lot of you do seem here. Just be aware that once you guys own for a while & start to rack up those miles that these problems might start to pop up!! I think that if you are going to pay $30,000 for a car, you should have some quality and reliability in what you have purchased and that is just not present in the RX-8.

Who knows, maybe I got the ONE bad one of 20,000, but I tell you what, it has sucked every second of the way!!!

You got a bad apple. At least you didn't drop 140K on the Ford GT. They are having a recalls too. One that is FAR more dangerous than anything with the RX-8.
First year productions tend to have a bit more recalls. Hope things work out for you.

your car pulling to the right and left is normal, it's called tramlining, and is due to your low profile tires.

you might want to go to a different dealer to see if they can fix it. remember each dealership is different and doesn't always reflect directly on mazda.

also, while you test drove a car, when you decided to buy your car, you should have been able to also test drive it before signing. I did that - my car went from 7 miles to 12 miles - I drove it a little, but didn't need to drive long.

I've had mine since July of 2003, have a lot more miles than you and my car is solid as a rock... quite happy with my purchase. It's always a good idea to do some research before you go out and spend 30k, some reading on this forum before making your purchase may have headed-off some of your headaches. The weak link seems to be uninformed dealers, not knowing what to do and or giving bad advice when it comes to this new model vehicle.

So far, any problems I have had with my 8 are minor (knock on wood). I love my 8. I think I will go downstairs now and kiss it goodnight.

I hung out in the forum for a long time before I chose to buy my '05. I admit a few times I had my doubts about the car. Especially all the talk about flooding, gas mpg,etc.etc. However I chose to really do my homework BEFORE I actually purhased it. I found alot more positives than negatives, and finally the test drives is what sold me. I think you may just be having really bad luck. I would strongly suggest what voodoo says and if your not getting what you want done,go to another dealer or contact Mazda headquarters direct.

I'm curious about the people who've had problems, more specifically about the dealerships in the local area. If their Mazda dealership is the only one in town, I can see some lackadaisical attitudes towards customer service (though it's really bad business). In my area there are maybe a half-dozen dealerships, and I suspect competition makes for better customer service.

I am going to test this theory next time I need service. i have been unhappy with the delaership that i purchased my car from, and there are a couple more near me that I am going to try.

My 8 has 18,000 miles, and has been relatively worry free. The usual TSB here and there, but none of the problems mabr0003 has mentioned. In fact, i think my car accelerates harder and better now. My MPG has improved since 10,000 and the "M" flash.

Hope you get it worked out.

First, sorry you are going through all that pain with your 8, I hope they buy it back from you.

I have never owned a new or newish car but they normally come with a 3-4 "bumber-to-bumber" coverage. If you car starts having a rattle, squeek, etc....is that something coverd under warranty? I would think it would be considering that parts of the car should not be comming lose...

Let me know...

I'm glad that my 8 with 22,000mi has been one of the most trouble free cars that I have owned. I don't have any rattles, or any other issues with my 8. Sorry pal for your bad luck--you got a bad apple. The lack of power compliant isn't valid to me--nobody forced you to by this car and that is what the test drive is for. If you wanted more power you could have gotten a Z that is marginally faster than an RX8 and runs out of steam by 7,000rpm or a Mustang that is about the same cost but not as good of build quality--or a boy racer EVO. All these people with these lack of power complaints need to kick rocks--ok I'm off of my soapbox now.

18K miles on mine. There are some rattles here and there. I plan on doing a search and destroy crusade in the spring to tighten, replaced and secure any loose, rattling fasteners. I attribute this to the car being new and not having time to be observed over a period of time.

Other than that......THIS CAR ROCKS!

No regrets buying her what-so-ever. If I had it to do over again, guess what?

I have'nt had any problems other than the TSB's that applied to the car. My 8 has been very reliable and the best car I've ever owned. You must have got a lemon. Hope it works out for you.

mabr0003 you said it yourself. maybe you got the one bad one out of 20,000. thats unfortunate but not the norm. it's ashame you can't experience the car the way it was meant to be experienced. if anything my car is getting better with age. it has 12,000 miles on it and other than the minor TSB fixes and slightly crappy city MPG i love it. you're on the right track talking to the managers. see if you can get an 05 and trade your car in. good luck.

Sorry you have to go through all this. You have 17K & I have 20K...luckily no problems other than having to wash the bastard.....oh yeah! and a sudden ice/snow storm here in the friggin' DFW area. Gonna have to go check some new tires I guess -if I can make it to the corner without smashing it against something

What was your VIN range and build date? I'm sure there is an unknown story behind why you are having so many troubles.

You never mentioned Mabr0003, do you have an auto or 6 spd? Was it bought new or used? Is there any chance you got a buy-back?

Good luck w/getting resolution. A nice new one would likely be all you could ever ask for and wanted in the 1st place.

The car will start fine if you simply rev it before you turn it off. I have no rattles with my car. It does pull to the left and right sometimes, but that has been explained inseveral threads the past few days. What no one has mentioned yet is that you've put 17,000 miles on the car in 6 months. that's about 100 per day. An aggressive driving style combined with poor road conditions could cause some things to loosen up wiht all that driving

Wow...sorry to hear how bad it is. Like the others, I think you got a lemon. Mine as built in June 2003, and I have 28k miles on it with few problems, aside from needed new tires now.
