RX8 limp mode randomly when driving 3-4k revs no more

Hi there, question from a newbie any help would be massively appreciated...
Driving my 04 rx8 231 today going along fine then suddenly the car wouldn't allow me to rev over 3-4k revs in any gear, I pulled over took key out for 10 seconds started again and was fine for 10 miles then it did the same thing... In a 25 mile trip back home this happened 5/6 times in different speeds/gears/revs but always started again fine when key removed for 10 seconds... Anyone experienced this before or able to give any advice? Had obd1 & 2 plugged in with no codes on 1 and 2 unable to connect
Thanks in advance frustrated owner!

Odd that this should happen with no codes thrown.
I'd first suspect the catalytic converter.
Could also be fuel delivery.
No codes is a mystery, though.

Thanks for the reply I will check that tomorrow and I've seen on some of these threads similar problems but different in ways pointing towards OMP?
Thanks

Limp mode is pretty obvious and normally doesn't throw a code if it is sensor related in my experiance. I'd guess with the age of your car the wires might just be going and shorting here and there. Once it's in limp mode you have to kill it and restart to get it out of limp mode. Maybe a rodent chewed on the wires a bit also.

That would be my first look at least.I wouldn't think cat otherwise just turning it off then on would not change anything. Fuel delivery maybe. If you moniter your AFR you should see it going lean if that's the problem.

Is there a sensor I can swap over for fuel delivery? Also how can I adjust the air flow as it's just had a new MAF sensor? Since this problem has come up my mpg as got even worse! And it's using to much fuel when idle as it smells quite rich?

Thanks

check the MOP...it is the mostc ommon reason for Limp Mode...and it will not throw a code for most issues.

Often it is the position switch setup...so you might be ble to move it slightly n correct the problem

The other potential place to look is the DBW throttle system...but it usually will set a code, and the ECT sensor ( coolant temp)

Good luck.....and it is unlikely to be emissions related...so O2 sensors and CAT problems will not do it

I am sorry fr not saying it. it's the omp sensor like dan just said, I would check the wires on it really well before adjusting it. Once you try to adjust it then you could throw it off and chase it for a long time. Since it is not alway's in limp mode. it might just need the smallest of adjustments. Like the width of a hair.

I'm sure the MAF sensor is fine, but the car will also learn up to 25% to adjust things at idle and everyday diving. it takes a little while to learn it. To adjust the airflow sensor you need a tuning tool like cobb or mazdaedit.
