FL PLEASE HELP!! Quick question bad mechanic?? Could have ruined my new fans.

So I bought the mishimoto aluminum racing fan shroud. I installed it got it running. My transmission needed to be replaced. And I took it somewhere to get done as it’s beyond my mechanical abilities to do such at my home. Now what I was wondering was would the mechanic who replaced my transmission need to take off my battery on the upper side??
cause now my car is overheating. I started taking stuff apart to investigate and noticed that one of the bolts aside the battery, that belong to that bracket that holds down the battery, was missing. Further investigation led me to find that bolt sticking out of my brand new fans. I removed the bolt and now I think the motor on that fan has been blown from not being able to spin due to the bolt blocking it.
now I know how tricky that little bracket with the two bolts that you have to hook under the side of the battery housing and then tighten up is. But it’s my car and I make sure I do it right every time. However this has only been an issue since replacing my transmission. So I want to confront the mechanic because those fans are brand new!! But I feel like he is gonna tell
me that they had no need to remove that or tell me it’s something they never touched. Which could be true, I guess, cause the transmission comes out the bottom. However maybe you have to remove it in order to reach somethings involved with replacing the transmission like some bolts or something else.
someone please tell me because I thought the transmission was the final piece I needed to have my car in running condition. But now this has happened and has left me very distraught and aggravated. But if it’s the mechanics fault. I want him to be responsible. Please help

You should first test the fans and make sure they both work. Here are instructions on how to test them:

By StealthTL
With the ignition off -

Open the front fusebox and find Cooling Fan Relay #1
it's in the middle
stay away from Relays #2 + #3

Pull relay 1 out and jumper together the two large terminals
the little ones are signal, it won't hurt anything, but they are not the ones.

Both fans should run on slow speed.
if one of them is burned out, neither will run
if one of them is jammed, only the free one will run

To test each fan you would need to open each connector at the motor and give it 12 volts and a ground.

All that being said, if you run the test and it shows the fan actually is burned out, you may still have no ability to make a claim. To be sure, the transmission has nothing to do with the radiator fan shroud. That bolt that was not reinstalled could damage the fan if it got stuck in there. You can blame the mechanic but I doubt he will offer to replace your fan shroud. Your only option would be to find a new mechanic. Obviously, the one who worked on your transmission is no good if he isn't reinstalling all the bolts that were taken off. That particular bolt is very hard to miss so I would worry about the job he did on your transmission. Hopefully that wasn't the only bolt he forgot...
