AZ New RX8 Owner in AZ - Greetings and Intro

Hello All,

After a solid month of stalking the forum in order to ensure that I was an educated buyer, I pulled the trigger in mid March and bought a 2006 Velocity Red GT showing roughly 58K on the odometer. I have lusted after a rotary in my garage since boyhood and am beside myself to own the unique platform at last!

She runs like a dream (knock on wood), and has lived up to all of the positive hype that I read about day in and out on the forum leading up to purchase.

I've already dropped the stock exhaust for a Racing Beat Rev8, and recently placed an order for Konig Oversteers in 18x9 +35 as well as Tein Basis Coilovers.

I must say, I've got it in a bad way for this lil piece of wankel magic.

Thanks for reading!

Definitely, I started with all of the pertinent maintenance recommendations from Mazda and extra bits as recommended on the forum. In looking the car over it definitely has signs of loving past owners, which has made my entry into RX8 ownership an easy one so far. Thanks for the welcome!

Hobasocka What else are you planning on putting in the car? Intake? Ignition? New oil source? Mid Pipe? Fill us in. Btw Welcome to the RX8 community, if you ever have issue's with this car. Come HERE before you go to the dealership. This forum has more knowledge about this car then Mazda themselves. I realize thats a powerful statement, but it is true.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am probably going to keep it relatively simple above and beyond the listed mods that I have already invested in. I have considered a Rev8 intake, but I'll tell you what, Mazda seems to have done a hell of a job with the stock one. Once the car is fitted with the extra bit of appearance that I am looking for, I will probably just stay focused on good maintenance practices so that I can enjoy the car for some time.

^ Good plan. A completely stock well maintained 8 will generally generate more respect around here than one that is modded

I would still suggest a few mods. Now this is just IMO of course but after having it on my car i would say spend the money to buy the BHR ignition kit. It's been proven that the rx8 ignition is weak. The BHR is a permanent solution to this problem. Also, as i have just gotten this as well, i would say purchase the sohn adapter. It makes more sense to put CLEAN two stroke oil in rather than used conventional oil. Again these are just IMO, other than that, enjoy the car. And again Welcome

I must say those are not bad suggestions at all. I sincerely appreciate the feedback!

Anytime, Like i said any issue's or questions. Come to this forum first. Any questions about anything just post it up. This forum has MANY MANY smart people(when it comes to the RX8 or the RX7). Two of the best of which have already replied to your original post.

I often forget those are "mods". I think of them as "fixes"

Once again great info. Any recommendations for a retailer or branding regarding the SOHN adapter?

[ Edit ]

Never mind, I should have searched first! Thanks again for the recommendations!

Did I see you only doing 65 on the 101 yesterday? Love that color, mine is white, picks up dust real nicely :-)

Ha, jasmine. I do drive the 101 frequently but not yesterday. I know there are a couple other velocity reds lurking about in the west valley where I'm at though of course.

It's crazy how fast people drive around here. In Denver you can't haul *** on the highways it's too crowded, but around here moms in mini-vans pass me all the time. I don't think I've ever driven my mini van over 80. The RX-8... well, we won't talk about that

Welcome! There are a few other 8's in surprise but most are driven by those who think "it's cute".
