New Rx8 owner
Picking up my new Rx8 in 2 days. I can't wait. I've done my research (mostly this vast pool of information). Buying an Rx8 felt more like committing to a long term relationship, kind of fell in love with the car after I had a ride in one.
Everyone around me gave bad reviews on it and it started to put me off from the car. However I decided not to be a sheep and did proper research. I found out as much as I could about the rotary and the RX8.
Signed up here because I want to know more about this car. It doesn't feel like any other car I've owned, doesn't drive like other cars, it just gripped me and I want to know about this goddess. I didn't even feel like this about my ex...
PS: The guy I bought it off (rich exchange student going back home) thought there was a problem with the "turbo" because the mechanic told him to warm up for 15 secs at 3k rpm before driving...So he sold it to me at 5k below market. I didn't tell him, which makes me feel bad but...idk

Thats my baby, no nice photos yet but I'll grab some when I get the chance. I'm pretty much going to have to get her checked out just to have peace of mind. Thinking of getting the latest 2kw starter and changing the plugs and coils this week, not sure what the car has been through but I'll start with some of the essentials mentioned in these forums to stay ahead of any problems. Anything else I'm missing?
The handling in this car is mind blowing. The position of the driver and that sound the rx8 makes at 6k rpm sounds crazy! It just feels like she is screaming constantly to drive her harder. Its so forgiving to drive it too. I mean this car is just a really fun machine, nothing like I've every driven before.

40th anniversary Edition
Don't forget to change the wires also when you change those coils and plugs. Any compression test numbers on the engine?

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.
